Today was the Employee Wellness Fair at The Hospital. The hours were from 10am to 2pm. Like a good volunteer, I said that I would help out. Even though I created the Anti-Inflammatory handout DURING my spring break. Even though I drove all the way to the hospital yesterday to print out and cut out the handouts -- which I had to do between working four hours at my (apparently stressful) job and arriving back to school, late for my evening class. Needless to say, I was not thrilled to be going back.
However, in a strange twist of fates, my morning class was let out early. Even though I thought I wouldn't be able to get to the hospital until 11am, I totally made it before 10am.
Mary was very glad to see me. She was grateful to have someone help her set up and get settled. After I made and additional 150 copies (which we didn't end up needing), the dietitians really didn't need me any more. I mean, I did a couple piddly things, but for the most part I perused the fair and wasted time...but that is not entirely true.
There were several raffle drawings going on at this particular fair. While waiting in line to get my posture analyzed (which turned out to be pretty bad, by the way), I filled out a ticket at the ergonomics station. After several minutes of waiting in a long line, the man assessing people's grip strength decided to choose a name from the basket. What do you know, the blue exercise ball I had been just admiring became mine. What made the moment even better is that, 30 seconds later, it became my turn for posture analysis. Since I had just won the ball, I received extra, individualized exercise suggestions (using the ball) to strengthen my upper back and improve my posture. How lucky am I?
