LJ - How to take it with you, well, your Flist that is.

Aug 16, 2007 22:29

I've been tinkering with this all day, and I think I have the basics down. Okay, how one reads multiple flists from many LJ clones at once in one place:

Download and install a RSS reader. I heard that, yes, one can view LOCKED friends posts! Here's how: Download and install feedreader3 from www.feedreader.com. It's free, runs fast, and I just like the layout. It's a 4 meg download. This may work with other readers, I haven't tested it.

1. Copy the following to your clipboard by highlighting the following and pressing Ctrl+c

http://username.livejournal.com/data/rss?auth=digest

2. Then open your user info page. (This is just for reference, so you can get the spelling of your friends usernames just right.)

3. Then open feedreader3.

4. Then press F3 on your keyboard, a address bar labeled add feed will appear at the top of the program. It's filled in http://USERNAME.livejournal.com/data/rss?auth=digest from the clipboard. Replace USERNAME with a friend on your flist.

5. Press enter, and a box will appear stating the server requires a username and password. Put in YOUR ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD, this lets LJ know who you are, and allows you to view FLOCKED posts in the reader.

Go back to step 4 and 5 till you have added everyone.

Just to make sure everything is set, click on file/manage feeds. You should see something like this, I'll user a feed of my LJ as a example:

FEED NAME : adahy
URL : http://adahy.livejournal.com/data/rss?auth=digest
username : YOUR USER NAME
password : **********
archive size : whatever you want
update period : whatever you want

Then force the feeds to update, and tada, locked posts all in once place.

You can also add everyone from LJ, GJ, SI, DJ, .... Just change the domain name to:

http://USERNAME.insanejournal.com/data/rss?auth=digest
http://USERNAME.greatestjournal.com/data/rss?auth=digest, Whatever you want.

When you want to comment, click on the post and it will load the page in your default browser. I've been using it this evening, and it's great!

Share if you want, I'm making this post public.
