preparing for the move...

Even though I didn't move in with a lot, it still took me several trips with the car a year ago. Over the past year I've reassimilated all of the stuff I'd left at the 'rents and granny's. Fortunately, I did't invest in too much furniture. The ultra plush foam Original Mattress Factory bed was the heftiest expense at $750ish, and unfortunately I can't unload it, even cheaply. I tried craigslist and the local paper ads. I got the usual scam spams, and lots of inquiries as to what a foam bed was, but no buyers.

My only guideline for this move:
If it doesn't fit in the RAV, it doesn't GO.

I pared down my clothes. I pared down my old VHS and audio cassette tapes. That was probably the hardest part... Even though I don't even own a cassette deck or VHS player anymore, my collection had a lot more sentiment attached to it than I anticipated. I had boxes and boxes, including the first 2 cassettes I ever owned, which I got at Christmas in 1982. I was 10 at the time. They were Loverboy "Get Lucky", and Huey Lewis "Picture This". I was proud of my tape deck, which back then was one of those little square deals that lay flat, facing up, with the huge buttons on one end and the single small speaker on the other. That is, until I went down to my friend Marlin's house and discovered that he had a BOOM BOX style tape deck, and I was insanely jealous. I was also jealous of the fact that *his* new tape acquisitions included Juice Newton and an Alvin and the Chipmunks album. I remember his room smelled like burning wax, old carpet, and dog. Well, I guess he made and burned scented candles for a reason. ;) I could tell you about our shared pyromania(also the name of yet another another cassette I'm tossing BTW @%@$@!$^%!!!), but that's a story for another time. It chronicles my high school years and early goth stuff. Slayer, Stryper, Prince, Metallica, tons of hair metal bands and early 90's alternarock.

...ok, back to reality. Wow. Those time warps hurt your head. I've spared the gossamer demos, practice tapes, live recordings, and demos received/traded at shows with other bands that I consider memorable or friends. The rest... Gone. Oh, I spared a few bootlegs too, but.. its only a couple handfuls of tapes. Tons less than the 4 cardboard boxes full that I had. The VHS tapes are down to a single box now as well, most of which were gossamer performances, or high school and semi pro theatrical productions I was in. Ok, I wouldn't call the tapes of Don Robinson and I banging our heads at the mall and lip synching metal tunes in the video booth semi-pro, but you can see the stage presence developing in my teen self. ;)

Question is, do I lug the VHS along, or have videodrome digitize them? Hrmmmm.....

60 hours(ish) til departure, and counting down. It'll be an 11ish hour drive at best, and I'm anticipating 12-13ish with breaks/stops/etc. The directions are really simple - 70 west for about 450 miles, then down 44 for another couple hundred from St Louis.

Oya - regarding the job scene - I have a couple of interviews lined up at the hospital close by in Springfield. I still have to work tonight and tomorrow night even though my unit closed last week. Don't ask why, I don't know either, but it's a stipulation for receiving my severance.

I'm a bit nervous about the move, but hey, I live for these adventures. Soon I'll be with someone that I really want to share them with.
