Realizations, horses, and church

* Went to the opera Saturday night and saw La Traviata. Now, I've been going to the opera off and on since college, when the incoming freshmen were taken to one. My boyfriend and I had season tickets to the Portland Opera for several years during med school, and I have been a member of our Opera here for 5-10 years.
At the first intermission I texted my sister with a realization - an opera is just like a soap opera, just with a better soundtrack. I was thinking that because I was irritated with all the overreactions and mis/non-communications that lead to the story. Similar to how I feel when we watch Bold & the Beautiful at lunch at the clinic.
At least I like the opera because A)the music is beautiful, B)the costumes are very cool, C)I often know one or two people in it, and D)it's in another language, so if the storyline is driving me nuts, I can ignore the supertext.
Also, the two leads had beautiful voices, especially the soprano. And she had this poofy sparkly dress in the first act that I WANTED! lol

*Got home very late (two intermissions), and of course the horses were waiting for me at the yard fence. But when I walked over to fill the water, Rex started tearing around like he was on crack. That, or he thought he was a young colt again, not sure which. He would run over there, stop, spin, run over here, stop, spin. lol It was good to see the old man happy (he's almost 20).

*Praise the Lord, we got lights in the choir loft!! It's been years, really. These ones are supposed to last 25 years, which is good because they have to build scaffolding to reach them it's so high up. Was kind of weird to actually see my music. lol

*We had Octoberfest at my church today. J and I ate there before we went to do the eucharistic visiting. The food was generally good. However, someone(s) had brought a pumpkin pie, a cherry pie, and an apple pie. As well as brownies, and other assorted goods. Also, by the time I was done with my first small slices or cherry and pumpkin, there was still cherry pie, OMG! Yeah, I had more. mmm...

*I was thinking today about eucharistic visiting. It's where teams of two take blessed wafers and wine out to people who can't get to church for some reason. We chat a little with the person, then we do the little service, and we all partake. Now, I've done it for two years now, and occasionally feel a little weird/question about us partaking, too, considering sometimes we'll be visiting up to three people (so take communion 4 times including church). (Also, rarely with the choir we have to do two services in a day, and will partake both times, which was very weird at first for me.)
BUT! Duh. I realized that we are breaking bread *together*, and fellowshipping with these people *together*, so it is completely appropriate. May have had something to do with the sermon today, not sure.

*My poop bog is very slowly drying. Still pretty deep, but the edges are getting more firm. Yay!
