Carmen tonight.

So, I went to the opera tonight. Apparently the benefit of paying extra is that you get invited to things.
First, there was a lecture an hour before. A local music prof talked about the opera, and where it came from. A tiny bit about musical themes, which was very cool. And basically gave us the story.
Then the opera itself was pretty good. The backgrounds weren't really solid, they were very well painted screens-it was really cool. *Very* well painted. And in the mountain scene, they even had a waterfall-made from lights, kind of like those really cheezy pictures, but here it was cool.
I hadn't seen Carmen before, which was great, that way I couldn't compare. Well, as much. lol But it was good. The leads were very lovely to listen to, the chorus was good, and the urchins were very cute. The music was great.
One of my colleagues had an urchin in the opera, so I said hi to him on the way out. Well, okay, I did it because I had to-being shy. Weird because his wife soooo wasn't what I had pictured-lol. She seemed nice, though.

Then, afterwards there was this reception hosted by the board. I actually went. I did, I swear. I even went around the tables, and nabbed food. And drink. And smiled at people, and tried to be friendly and open-like. Stayed for about 15 mintues-then bolted. lol But still, I was there, so that's a big deal. Especially considering I was there by myself. So there.

Wheeeee....all in all, not bad. Pretty good. Seen Carmen.
(Getting distracted now because Torchwood's on, and it's Cyberwoman. I forgot it came so early in the series.)
