Ada in RE6

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted here, but I had to share this. ♥ Please do comment on how you feel about this game. I'm very curious. I myself am excited, but very apprehensive. I honestly don't believe that CAPCOM will make Ada totally OOC and we come to find out that Carla really is Ada, however, CAPCOM is notorious for screwing up plot ( Read more... )

(Ahh, yes, that must be why. Contd.)

Perhaps it is my wishful thinking.

Granted, the rampant death and destruction concern me (e.g. the enormous fire, what she apparently does to Chris’s squad in the Captivate trailer, etc.). However, the saving grace are the orders she is given.

I may be over-analyzing things here…But this situation greatly resembles Resident Evil 4 all over again. Ada’s caught up working for some shady, power-hungry, destructive company (now “Neo-Umbrella” instead of Wesker-I’ll get to this); as she is told her orders, she smirks in the background, suggesting that she still has an agenda of her own-I mean, how many times did she do that over the course of Separate Ways? It’s oh-so-very Ada.

Then there is the very fact that she is being given orders at all and is still not acting entirely of her own volition. Two-dimensional villain? Perhaps not.

The other suggestion here is that her “employer” is apparently Neo-Umbrella. My initial reaction was “wtf Capcom, this is the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard.” And while I stand by the fact that the name is heinous and uncreative, I think that this may suggest some hope for us Ada fans. Why? Again, I may be over-analyzing things, but…It was my understanding that Ada was working to betray Umbrella, not revive them in another manifestation. This could have a number of meanings (one being that Ada is, indeed, working for a rival pharmaceutical corporation that has labeled itself a revived Umbrella), but my hope is that perhaps she was able to keep up appearances even after her betrayal, and especially after Wesker’s death. It could potentially suggest that whatever she is doing is still a guise to mask some greater cause, some agenda that Ada is still pursuing and that only Ada knows.

Since RE4, my secret hope for Ada has been this (…and I think that we could still see it achieved):

I refuse to believe that Ada is doing anything less than saving the world in the background…Working for the various pharmaceutical corporations, playing them against each other, following their orders and gaining their most invaluable secrets…All the while plotting their demise and waiting for the exact moment to let her elaborate scheme for their utter annihilation fall into place. Doing this may necessitate committing some atrocious crimes, even having to initiate and/or be blamed for world-wide terrorist attacks…but in the end, I still feel convinced that she’s one of the “good guys.” The best of them, even.

And truth be told, within this assumption, I always foresaw that Ada would eventually have to sacrifice herself to make it happen.

If this series EVER concludes, I always imagined that Ada would die (yes, actually die this time) intentionally and knowingly sacrificing herself for this ultimate greater good. Naturally, I imagined that she would do this in Leon’s arms, confessing her love for him and telling him that it was he that inspired her to do it, that it was he that taught her what humanity was and what it could be, that the world was worth saving.

I’m still holding on to this. And I don’t think it is entirely out of the question. At least, I hope it isn’t.

(Contd...)

Another thing that I find particularly encouraging: Capcom has really been playing up the conflict between Chris and Leon over Ada.

There was, of course, the Captivate trailer. If any of you follow the official Resident Evil page on Facebook, they reposted the Captivate trailer some time after it had already been released, intentionally drawing followers’ attention to that particular scene. On the one hand, I know that it could be argued that Leon has selfish motives for defending her (apparently she has information that would prove him and Helena innocent). However, I think that the latest trailer gives us hope for that lingering affection between him and Ada that we all so treasure. (“She’s working for Neo-Umbrella. You know what that means?” demands Chris. Dramatic pause. “Yeah…I do,” answers Leon.) I find a lot of encouragement from the fact that Leon is willing to confront Chris this way, to defend her even with her…morally questionable activity. And I especially like that Capcom apparently thinks this is important enough to keep pointing back to it.

The first time I watched this trailer the other day, I was angry about the way things were looking. Again. But…The more I watch it…I have to be honest, the more excited I am getting about it. There are still things to be worried about. There are still disappointments. Maybe my hopes will be crushed, and I have not yet ruled out a complete boycott of Capcom, including this game (for reasons that are not necessarily related to Resident Evil)…but I am still going to hope. Or try to. I am still going to speculate about this to death in the lead-up to October, and if I am disappointed in the end, (depending on what happens) I am going to do my best to headcanon everything (Leon/Ada) to death.

After thinking about it over the last couple of days…I have spent too much time with this fandom and these characters to entirely give up hope on them, even with all of the reason Capcom has given us lately to doubt them. After all these years, I still love them dearly, and I have spent the time since the trailer reminding myself why.

On that note, however, I am still going to find opportunities to be cynical as hell, even with these moments of optimism. So if I end up contradicting myself all over the place…Well, emotional roller-coaster and all that.

(In other news, Leon is sexier than ever with his maturing, rugged look, and I am rejoicing at the return of his gorgeous hair, especially in the gameplay demos. 30+ hours of staring over Leon’s shoulder and admiring his hair as I aim and take out zombies? Yes, please! )

Done. :D Sorry. I had to get this out.

Aww, thanks! And here I was thinking that I'd written something trivial and bland and too long-winded (but that I was posting in spite of that because I needed to say it somewhere and get it off my chest). :D

I have been thinking along the same lines as you with Ada's true objective. IMO, her actions seem more in-depth than CAPCOM is currently showing. Also, Hiroyushi Kobayashi (one of the people that helped design RE4) is a part of making this game. This alone gives me hope for our ship, considering all the UST they gave them. Besides, some of Ada's dialogue in the trailer itself contradicts what orders she is given. She calls Wesker an imbecile for trying to destroy the world... and what is this corporation doing? Also, in the interviews, they are saying to watch the trailers closely to find hidden clues. Even in these fast, short clips, they are exposing things. I have hope, but I'm wary.
