OOC: it's Connie's birthday, so people should visit or call or send emails!!Connie's 34th birthday started off nicely, with a kiss from Michael and the promise of dinner at one of her favorite restaurants. He was saving her gift till then and she was glad. It meant there was even more to look forward to - not that dinner, or just being with him, ( Read more... )

It's lunchtime on Connie's birthday. Zach is quite possibly giddy at the idea of such things because it means not just delicious food but special delicious food. Like the gift basket he's proudly carrying with him to Connie's office from Milk & Cookies Bakery - a dozen chocolate chip cookies, a dozen peanut butter cookies, and two little cartons of milk are in the basket with a card that reads 'To my lunch buddy on her birthday....'

He knocks on the already open door, though at this point their lunches have become so routine that knocking is more habit than necessary.

Connie looks up from the sandwich that she's just taken a bite of. She chews quickly, motioning with a hand for him to come in. "Hey."

Zach looks at her sandwich and scrunches his nose. Yep. That sums up his opinion of those 'working lunches'. He walks into Connie's office and sits the basket on her desk. "Happy Birthday!" And he grins, "I brought snacks."

"Ooh. Thanks," Connie leans over and starts to open the basket. "Wow...very nice."

"They have just about every kind of cookie you can think of there," and he's all kinds of giddy as he says this. It's one of his favorite places, but then, his list of favorites is so long these days.

He sits down and for a moment he ponders what he should do about his own lunch since the birthday girl decided to eat a sandwich, alone. Hmph. Surely she's learned better habits from him by now. But this has him wondering what other birthday goodness she's had today. And ohhhhh he does love to gossip. He can chat to Alex about it later. His giddiness will ensue!

"Sooooooo," he says in his so-I'm-nosy-and-your-friend tone which is mostly playful, "why are you eating a sandwich all alone for lunch on your birthday? Are you not into the birthday thing or was there some fantastic foodage earlier?"

OOC: Zach Nichols is all up in your business and making up his own words. Ohhhhhh yeah. He's being all nosy like he does sometimes, but you aren't on for me to be like.........omg, Zach wants to be nosy.

Connie sets her sandwich down with a chuckle. "My husband made me breakfast in bed this morning - french toast and bacon, because I know you're going to ask - and he's taking me out to my favorite restaurant for dinner. If I ate a heavy lunch, I might literally pop at this point."

"Ohhhh, very nice," he grins. Zach does enjoy French toast. There aren't many things he doesn't eat. "And fancy dinner? ...I'm jealous." At that, he smirks.

"Dinner at a four-star restaurant and the company of Michael Cutter - you should be jealous." Connie was teasing, but it was clear how excited she was about it on both counts.

"You only eat with spectacular people," and he is mostly referring to himself because he does that sometimes, "so dinner with Michael is probably worth being jealous over."

He laughs, "but you know I'm practically drooling at the idea of four star dinner. Lucky, lucky birthday girl." He wonders if it's too soon to demand Danny Ross for a raise - he's got cravings for expensive food now!

...he also needs lunch. He wonders if the pretty blonde ADA has lunch plans, but then, he still doesn't know where Ms. Novak's office is exactly. He tries not to stare at Connie's sandwich.

"I'd offer you the other half but I already ate it, " Connie says before taking a drink of water. "You should be a consultant like Skoda. Free fancy lunches all the time."

"You know, I think that's the one thing that makes me actually regret dropping out of medical school." Oh, and he's serious too. He could've dealt with being a therapist had he known there could've been free fancy lunches. No one ever mentioned that part. "I haven't seen Skoda since I've been back. I should call him..."

Connie snorts. "Why would you do that?"

"So I could pick his brain about picking my brain?" He grins. "Good times."

Connie makes a face. "Not my idea of a good time...but whatever floats your boat."

"True. Skoda's not one for shopping or gossip." His tone is playful, and he can't help but laugh at the thought of Skoda hanging out with him and Connie. No. Skoda is only there for small doses of therapist-like conversation. That's how Zach defines their friendship, anyway.

"Speaking of good times..." and now he's lowered his voice into nearly gossip-mode. Connie should know this by now. "...let's say there's someone that caught my eye. However, we're sort of professionally linked." He pauses, then adds, "Not Alex." He reclines back a little, bringing his fingers together in a point out of idle habit since he's in that over-thinking mode. He really needs a good case to work on - something to put his brain to good use rather than such things. "So, for the sake of professional boundaries and all, would it be weird to say....try to find a certain ADA's office and see if she has lunch plans?"

Connie's brows shot up - way up. "Professional--you don't mean Casey, do you?"
