A friend recently gifted me with a bolt of thin white cotton fabric. Today whilst wandering aimlessly about the house while avoiding housework it caught my eye. One pile of books and some photo searching online and I have a project or three. :0)
On the docket:
One set of Turkish salwar and gomlek.
One basic Elizabethan style shirt
One pleated shirt for my German Ren.
I already have most of a shirt for my German, but as it was an experiment, was not happy with the final result as is. Pattern for the next version needs some serious tweaking to sit properly while worn. I was looking through my books and found two variations - either of which will do the trick. The problem I had was that the pleating/gathering on the shirt was exclusively down the front and back of the shirt - artwork of the period shows the pleats radiating all the way around the shirt from the collar. Current shirt will be pulled out of my time out pile, finished and used with my Landsknecht garb instead.
Basic Elizabethan shirt needs to be worked up for a friend. He's fairly new to the SCA and calls himself a Pirate - so I asked him if he was ok with me using him as a Barbie doll and letting me do up some Elizabethan gear for him. He's a confident guy, so said yes. Besides - free garb. :0)
Turkish kit is for another friend, who does not sew (As yet - we just figured out her new machine). She expressed an interest in my Turkish clothing, which is practical and pretty at the same time. We'll start with the underwear and go from there.
Between this and the vegetable garden, it's been a good Sunday. Let's see if I get to cutting before the day is out...
