Dream Journal - The Verge

Last night's dream took place in a small town which bordered a forest area. The first part I remember was of meeting a band of soldiers or guerillas in green military garb coming out of the forest. They had a captain at their head who seemed to be somewhat Latin in appearance, and I remember thanking them for being with them even if it was only for a couple of days. I felt almost like a journalist or some other outsider who was coming in at the end of something. The captain seemed almost solicitous of my safety, and we shared a few words as the soldiers dispersed into the town.

I saw a few people that I knew in the streets there, including one or two of my old enemies who were in this case generally friendly towards me. It seemed to be about the hour of nightfall, as we could behold numerous unknown stars shining overhead in unusual abundance. I believe there might have been a campfire or two, and a sense of people camping out or having an outdoor gathering in spite of everything else that was going on.

There was a [probably] Catholic church in the middle of town which the captain must have been using as a kind of headquarters. My view shifted so that I could see him in the middle of a faintly modern-looking room of rectangular plan and of whitish general coloration. There were two objects or places on the ceiling that were laid out in a symmetrical pattern, and on which the captain cast a kind of 'magic' of some sort to place a grey or vaguely colorless barrier over them. I had the sense that whatever he was doing was preparing defenses for a last stand that was imminent with some approaching enemy, although I saw no hostile forces at the time.
