{OOC: Ah, light...the only element that Jay doesn't have...
Jay is elsewhere at the moment, so there'll still be time before Jay arrives...}
[Jay arrived at the lake deep within the forest. The water was perfectly still, displaying a flawless mirror image of the trees that surrounded it. Jay thought back at the image that had flashed through his mind at the inn.]
(This is it...this is what I saw.)
[This could only mean that he had been led here. Jay stepped to the lake, allowing his shoes to touch the water.]
I'm here...Nerifes....if you truly exist in this world, please make your presence known.
[Right on cue, Jay's hands began to glow involuntarily, a sure sign that Nerifes was calling out to him. Jay raised his hands in front of him, staring at them, a feeling of excitement welling up within him.]
Nerifes...I thank you. I'm glad I'm not alone. I will need you to guide me. This world is in trouble, and I don't know what to do. What is causing the mana to decline? How can we help Martel and the World Tree? Please give me a sign...lead me in the right direction.
[Another image flashed through Jay's mind, a dark cave. Jay closed his eyes and studied the image carefully, also making out the person standing there.]
The mines? And it looks like Colonel Jade is already investigating it. That must be the "location in question" he mentioned earlier. In that case, I'll wait for him to return.
[As the image faded, Jay opened his eyes and surveyed the lake once more. The glow in his hands gradually faded also.]
Thank you again, Nerifes. I shall return to Blessenwood now.
[But apparently, Nerifes had another idea. As Jay turned on his heel, yet another image flashed through his mind - an image of the World Tree. Although nothing looked out of the ordinary in the image, Jay got the message; something was wrong there.]
*Gasp* The World Tree...is it in danger? I'd better hurry!
[He sprinted from the lake and back into the forest, hoping that he could reach the tree in time...]
Descender...?clawedshadowJuly 11 2009, 18:18:15 UTC
[Goede paused in his spell casting but kept a hold on the spell. His own mismatched eyes glanced toward the source of the voice, narrowing as he sensed the man's mana signature.]
Hmph. No... your mana's strange but you're not this world's Descender. You're not the one I want to see... Stay out of the way then!
[With a wave of his normal hand, Goede prepared to launch the spell at the large tree before him--]
Re: Descender...?solemnity_cruxJuly 11 2009, 19:37:32 UTC
Hmp.
[Kratos' eyes narrowed. It didn't seem as if Goede was going to cooperate, and as things stood, either Kratos would have to fight him or watch the World Tree be burned to ashes. Since he could not let harm come to the tree, not if he wished to return home or save this world - the latter of which was less of an issue to him than the former, but still a priority, Kratos was left with little choice.
The angel gathered mana in his fist and took aim at Goede's arms and unleashed a Fireball. Killing him would serve no good, but stopping his attack was an entirely different story.]
I'm afraid this is a situation where I cannot merely stay out of the way. There is a Summon Spirit residing within that tree. If you destroy it, you will be stuck in this world permanently... that is, until the land runs out of mana, withers, and dies. Then you and everyone else would perrish, or so I would assume.
Re: Descender...?clawedshadowJuly 11 2009, 20:24:43 UTC
[Goede noticed the fireballs out of the corner of his eye and scoffed. Trying to stop him with just that--]
Uhn!!
(Wha-- That wasn't supposed to--)
[Goede warped to a safe distance away, staring at his claw in astonishment. There on the bone that had taken the brunt of the attack was a faint black mark that was already fading swiftly.
But that pathetic attack shouldn't have elicted even a flinch from him much less do something like interrupt his spell!!]
(I've... become weaker...? This is... fear...? I'm... scared...! No... why is this happening?! Why am I here?! No... No...)
[Some part of his mind registered the fact that the man was speaking but not the words.]
(You're not here... How... what...what am I going to do?? Unh... My head... hurts... I don't understand... I don't understand!! That.. man...!!)
[With a cry of confused anger, Goede hovered a few inches off the ground like he always does in battles and threw himself towards the man, claw outstretched.]
Re: Descender...?iknowjjJuly 11 2009, 20:30:30 UTC
[Upon his arrival at the World Tree, Jay came to a screeching halt. However, he gasped upon seeing the two unfamiliar figures facing each other. They appeared to be opposing each other, but Jay was uncertain of whose side to take. The clawed, purple-haired figure had a dark aura about him, but the red-haired mercenary didn't look very friendly either.
(Well, this certainly complicates things...)
Jay dug his hands into his pockets, while tapping his left foot, keeping an eye on both figures. Meanwhile, the clawed figure had lunged toward the mercenary. Jay paused, not wanting to draw attention to himself just yet...at least not until he could decide who to side with... He also needed to catch his breath...]
Re: Descender...?solemnity_cruxJuly 11 2009, 20:53:15 UTC
[Kratos was not nearly as confused or angry as his opponent, and several thousand years of fighting experience had taught him that these two things could be the downfall of even the most skilled soldier.
Kratos drew his sword, backing up a bit and somersaulting to the side in an effort to avoid the brunt of the attack, as Kratos' booted fit hit the ground again, he swung the sword back in Goede's direction, hoping to connect.
Why was this person so angry and confused? What were his motives. It reminded him uneasily of Mithos after his sister had been killed, he realized. Perhaps this being had lost something in the process of being transported here.]
[Kratos spoke evenly, but his words flowed more quickly, seeing as he was now being targeted.] That was my original intention, however, it would seem that I am needed here. Back down!
Re: Descender...?iknowjjJuly 11 2009, 21:02:07 UTC
[Jay gasped again (silently this time) as he witnessed the swift claw attack. The clawed figure was quick and dangerous, definitely not an opponent to take lightly. Now Jay was leaning towards siding with the red-haired mercenary, but he still was not ready to join the fight yet.
Realizing that he was vulnerable in the open, Jay quickly hopped behind the nearest tree and proceeded to watch the battle, studying the moves from both combatants and attempting to devise a strategy...]
Re: Descender...?solemnity_cruxJuly 11 2009, 21:11:05 UTC
[His opponent was fast, and managed to cut several slashes in Kratos' arm and chest before the Seraph had time to properly react.]
Guardian!!
[Kratos braced himself, bending his knees so he was closer to the ground, a shield of mana forming around him. The mercenary was holding the sword in front of himself to block any attacks that might penetrate his defenses. It looked like he would have no choice but to render this man unconscious. He began casting as his barrier began to dissipate.]
Sacred powers, cast your purifying light upon these corrupt souls... rest in peace, sinners...
((OOC: Casting "Judgment" takes a while and will not finish in this post.))
Re: Descender...?iknowjjJuly 11 2009, 21:43:44 UTC
[Jay studied the battle for a moment longer. Now he was beginning to trust the mercenary as the one with the good intentions. Knowing he was vulnerable as he was casting his spell, Jay decided to act now.
He moved to a different tree, looking for a trajectory that would avoid hitting the mercenary or the World Tree should his attack miss its target. Jay stepped in front of his tree, hurling his exploding dagger at the clawed figure.]
Re: Descender...?clawedshadowJuly 11 2009, 22:04:59 UTC
(What--!!)
[Goede heard a whistling through the air, but before he could do anything he was already flying backwards from an explosion. He let out a gasp at the pain, then another one as he slammed onto the ground.]
(Another one-- Another one--!!)
[He had endured greater pains than this. His wounds were fusing slowly. But the pain in his chest... It wasn't injured, so why did it hurt so much?! Not being able to take it any more,Goede let out a scream of anguish and fury as he righted himself.]
(It hurts... It hurts inside... Why does everyone want to destroy me?! You... that World Tree... did Granide's World Tree send me here to destroy me?! Answer me!! Answer me!!!)
ANSWER ME!!!
[With that scream, Goede warped and slashed at one of his attackers, too far gone to see who he was attacking or use any artes.]
[Jay was caught off guard as the clawed figure suddenly warped in front of him, slashing his claws at him. Jay barely managed to block the attack with his daggers, but the impact still sent him flying swiftly through the air. His back crashed into a tree trunk as he hit the ground. The crash, combined with his exhaustion, knocked the boy unconscious...]
The sudden dimming of the mana signature he had been targeting registered to Goede's chaotic mind as one would-be destroyer eliminated. Breathing harshly, he stumbled backwards, left hand clutching desperately at his chest as he let out a low, suffering keen.]
(It hurts... It hurts so much... It's scary... Why... I don't understand... I don't understand anything! Help...)
[A sudden flare of mana from behind him made Goede freeze in shock. Immediately the expression of anguish twisted into one of fury and he whipped around to face the red-haired man that had been the first to try to destroy him.]
You... All of you... This world... Why does everyone want me to disappear?! I don't understand... It hurts!! To be born then destroyed then born again only to wait for destruction... I don't want to go back to that existence again!! You humans were the ones that created me... and now you're the ones trying to destroy me again!! Why?!
[He warped to the red-haired man's back abruptly, screaming as he brought down his claw for a fatal blow.]
[There seemed to be no use in trying to talk sense into this person if he was unwilling to listen. Even if he had tried to explain that no one was trying to make Goede disappear, he highly doubted his words would be believed.
Kratos had been using the time Jay had bought him to recast Judgment. The mercenary let out a yell as beams of light came raining down around them from the heavens above.
Goede was fast, and Kratos was having difficulty keeping up with his movements. A mournful cry from behind alerted him of Goede's location. Kratos wheeled around, sword ready, before crashing backwards into the ground from the impact.]
[The jarring clash of steel against his claw follwed by the harsh impact of crashing onto the ground was like a slap across the face to Goede. Stunned, it took him a moment to realize that his momentum had helped him knock that man over... and also in the same move thrown him right over the man to crash a few feet away. Everywhere hurt, disoriented, Goede could only pick himself up and blink bewilderedly for a moment--
And then all hell broke loose.]
ARRGHH--AAAAHHHHH!!!!
(Light--not yours-- you won't hurt me like this won't you--light light everywhere no matter where I go--it hurts it hurts it's everywhere make it stopstopstop HELP!!!)
[A pulse from behind him. like a gigantic heartbeat. And then suddenly he was feeling so stronginvincible--
Goede's eyes widened as he realized that he had been enveloped in a black mist. Looking up, he met the equally shocked gaze of the man that had attacked him. And a small voice spoke up from somewhere in the recesses of his mind]
(This is this world's negativity. It's surging from the World Tree. Just like... when I was born...!!)
"It hurts it hurts--" "Pain... nothing but pain..." "We're suffering..." "Help!!" "I hate you--I HATE YOU!!"
(The voices... of the... negativity...)
[The small voice was saying something again. That no hatred, no negativity was coming from the man he'd attacked. But Goede could only float there, frozen and staring at the negativity as the voices of suffering bombarded him.
Somehow, he knew that something was very, very wrong.]
