It looked peaceful so far. )
With her vantage point, she was able to see just how large the serpents were. They were the biggest monsters she'd ever seen... Of course, monster on Melfes weren't exactly large. While the rest of Ad Libitum charged into battle, Shirley gazed under water, spotting several people who were still frantically trying to get away from the serpents, and even more being tossed from their boats. First thing was first: Shirley had to help them.
And so, she swam out as fast as she could. Her species made it possible for her to swim faster than a normal human being, thus, it didn't take her too long to reach a couple who had been knocked from their boat. She pulled them out of the way just as another serpent crashed down on the spot where they had been, causing the couple to scream and hold onto Shirley for dear life. In hindsight, Shirley realized it'd be much easier to grab a boat for this, but she simply reacted like a Ferines.
Once the two were in shallow water and regained themselves enough to swim each other out, Shirley turned and headed out again, this time veering off course enough to grab a raft and drag it along by a rope along behind her. She stopped after that, though, realizing that she wouldn't be strong enough to pull a boat full of people to shore. Thus, she lifted herself out of the water a bit to call out to the beach, hoping that a few members of Ad Libiutm were still lingering there.]
Someone help me! We need to get those people out of there!

As soon as they were on, she was up and running again, looking around to asses the situation as she approached. It looked like a few people were already engaging the monsters - hopefully that would keep them distracted for a little while. Right now, getting the civilians to safety had to be the first priority. Another girl also seemed to be thinking along those lines - hearing her call, Innes changed course to go in her direction, calling back to her.]
Right! Hang on!
[With that, she surged into the water, swimming over to Shirley with powerful strokes.]

[But now, they had something to do. Shirley turned forward again with a frown on her face, and then she began to swim with powerful strides. She didn't - she couldn't hesitate in the face of the serpents flailing about in the sea. No matter how terrifying it was, she was sure it was even worse for the people still trapped in the water.
There were a group of children nearby, all of them screaming out for the parents and just barely staying above the water by the floats strapped onto their arms.]
There! [She starts to swim over to them, hoping Innes realizes where she's heading, too.]

He gently steered the ship through the waves, following Innes towards Shirley's path. Waving towards them both, he then calls:] OY! Get everyone on here!
[... Nevermind that he still didn't like these off-worlders. Even if they were still helping everyone out. Right now, the safety of his townspeople mattered more than some stupid rivalry.]
