I flew to Switzerland today with my friend Rose. For me it's part vacation part work - I'm covering the AIDS Vaccine conference in Lausanne. That's next week, though. This week should be all fun and games in Luzern and environs.
The flight to Atlanta was the Captain's last flight - he was retiring after 27 years with Delta. Apparently, many members of his family were on this flight, including his dad and his daughter, who's also a pilot. It was a very smooth ride (my favorite sentence in the English language :) ). We were supposed to be welcomed with a water arc from the airport fire trucks -- a Delta tradition for retiring pilots. Unfortunately, the trucks were called away on an emergency, so no water arc.
I didn't ask what emergency.
In-flight movie was 13 Going on 30. Not a bad movie for flights. Very predictable, with all the trite plot devices - just the kind of fluff you need to distract white-knuckle passenger like me. Heh…
The flight to Zurich was LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG. And lengthy. And did I mention the flight was long? It was also, thankfully (here's that favorite sentence again), smooth. But I can't sleep on plains, so it was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG flight.
The movie was Jersey Girl. Another predictable and cute fluff. Except the sound system didn't work for most of the 1st half of the movie. Very annoying.
We landed at Zurich tomorrow West Coast time. Figure it out for yourselves.
