Predictable

Aug 10, 2006 11:24

As I predicted a month ago, we have today widespread coverage of another alleged terror plot, just in time to remind uncertain Americans and British why it is "necessary" to continue our agression in the Middle East. I'm glad no one died in this one, but it was an incredibly predictable move in light of the current Israel agression in Lebanon ( Read more... )

Encroached into Lebanese territory? That's not what happened. Hizbullah crossed the border to capture those Israeli soldiers. Even Hizbullah admits it.

I could have missed out on some late-breaking update, but the last I heard, Israel claims that Hizbullah illegally crossed the border in order to kidnap the soldiers, while Hizbollah and the Lebanese government both claim that Israel illegally crossed the border first with a small squadron of tanks and soldiers. Someone's lying here, and I don't really have any idea which side that would be. What I do know is that I don't see the sense in destroying a country's entire infrastructure and killing hundreds upon hundreds of civilians (many of them Christians, by the way, who had little if any feelings of support for Hizbollah before this flareup) in retaliation for the kidnapping of two soldiers, regardless of who crossed the border first.

The fact that Hizbullah started this is not in dispute anywhere outside the far-left liberal blogosphere--the same people who believe Dick Cheney masterminded 9/11.

The civilians weren't killed for the hell of it. They were killed because Hizbullah planted rocket launchers in their suburban neighborhoods to maximize the impact of Israeli retaliation. I mean, why does it matter? It makes the Israelis look bad, the Muslims who are killed are "martyrs" and the rest are just Christians. They don't care who they hurt.

Hmm... it seems to me that you're being pretty assumptive/presumptious about several things here. I mean, I am definitely not a far-left frequenter of the "liberal blogosphere"; I simply get my news from a wide variety of publications (print, online, and otherwise) from all over the world, and I try as best I can to fit it together into a coherent whole. Where contradictions exist (such as that between Israel and Lebanon over who encroached whose property first), I simply take note of them and reserve judgment for a later time when clarity is brought to the situation. My political views are pretty nonexistent beyond a anarchical-leaning distaste for hierarchy, violence, and propaganda. Nor do I believe that Dick Cheney masterminded 9/11. (or disbelieve, for that matter; I don't know, and I'm suspicious of many parties, both within and without various governments and terrorist organizations ( ... )

The Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon wasn't done on a whim, either. It was a result of several unprovoked wars that the Arab states tried to use to wipe Israel off the map.

Nor does it have anything to do with religion. It matters not one whit if they are Christians or Muslims. What matters is the fundamental fairness of the whole situation. Israel withdrew from Lebanon several years ago, and had no beef with the current incarnation of Hizbullah. However, Hizbullah is a proxy army for Tehran, and they wanted a war. They got one.

I blame Israel not at all for defending itself.

I apologize for making an absolute statement about circumstances which remain in dispute. My blog has been amended to reflect this discrepancy ( ... )

Glad to see I'm not the only one who heard both different things.
