Hi, everybody! I'm not sure if any of you heard what happened to my computer at the end of June, but when I was using brand new software that I purchased for the express purpose of backing up my book and other documents, my computer froze and when it got unstuck and came back to life, everything was gone! All my photos, graphics, animations and illustrations had disappeared. In addition to that, all my research, my short stories, my saved documents and most importantly of all...MY BOOK...all 33,883 words of it was gone!
Needless to say, I was completely devastated! I called the computer manufacturer and explained my problem and miraculously, even though I am well past the warranty period, they have agreed to take my laptop back and try to repair it...for FREE! While I was speaking to the representative, he discovered that my particular model number had a defect that had not been fixed on my computer. The defect had nothing to do with my problem, but it enabled him to do this great favor for me and he was very helpful and understanding. It probably didn't hurt matters any when I cried and told him all about how I'm disabled and how I depend on having this laptop in working order (all true)--and I didn't do it to manipulate him, either. It all just came pouring out in my desperation and the sweet man felt sorry for me--he was such an angel. It was definitely a blessing from the Lord. I don't normally break down like that. I was just at the end of my rope.
Now all I'm waiting on is the box to ship it back in. First they forgot to send one; then, the box they sent was so paper-thin that it was caved in on one half of it by the time it got here. Did they really think I would ship my laptop back to them in a box like that? No way!!!
In the meantime, I have found some of the documents that I thought were lost, hidden in the hard drive...but still, no book. I'll keep looking, but I really think that it's gone.
I've already gotten a good start on rewriting my book and I think that it may even be coming out better than the original did. The Lord is so good, isn't He?
Here are the word counts that I had missed posting (there are quite a few!) and I'm all the way up to date now. We're on the last leg of our challenge (this is the final month) and I'm sorry to see it end. The girls in the group probably won't want to be my friend after this because I'm so much older and that truly makes me sad. I've enjoyed their friendship so much! The word counts are from 03 June 08 through 01 August 08 (dates not listed are zeroes):

Phfew...that's all of them, finally. I feel so much better now that it's all caught up!
My hands are killing me and I had the most horrible day (pain-wise) today. I never can tell what's going to trigger my horrific pain episodes, but weather certainly couldn't have been a factor today because it was beautiful outside and now that Dion did all the yardwork, the lawn, the hedges, and flowerbeds look fantastic. He did an amazing job!
I did have some really nice things happen to me today, too: My neighbor, Sheila, brought me a bag full of vegetables from her garden. There were 2 yellow squash, 2 cucumbers and 2 green peppers and they all were gorgeous! She said that her garden is just now coming on and she'll be bringing beans, acorn squash, butternut squash, corn, tomatoes and all kinds of things whenever we want them and I told her to come ahead...we love veggies! Also, our friend, John, called here today and when he heard how much pain I was in over the phone, he brought over some "Sport" and "Ambrotose" to help with the pain (awesome--both natural nutrients) and he brought me some beautiful flowers to cheer me up! Isn't that the sweetest thing you ever heard of? What a sweetheart he is! And the weird thing is: I have been talking to him on the phone for about a year now, we've become very close friends, he lives only about 3 miles away from us and...I have never met him!
Part of it is because I'm terribly shy sometimes and have low self-esteem in some social settings, this being one of them--(because he knows I'm disabled and he's aware of the terrible pain that I experience.) I know this is silly because he's so kind and understanding--he would never judge me.
Anyway, now I have a house full of flowers because Dion bought me the most beautiful flowers the other day--he's always doing romantic things like that for me. He's the best husband in the entire world and that's no exaggeration, either.
Well, it's time to get to bed. I'll have to remember to take a picture of our mailbox now that Jon and Dion fixed it--it really looks nice. We were looking for the perfect numbers to put on the box and Dion had just painted the mailbox and post and then...don't you know the mailman takes a Sharpie marker and writes our house number on the front of our box! No warning or anything! I don't know what his problem is! So Dion already had the numbers to put up that night--if the guy could have just waited one more day, they would have been on there! Anyway, Dion just painted over the black marking pen scribbles and put up the numbers. I looked it up in the regulations and I see that we're supposed to have a number on our box (which we always did, for years!)--we were just going to put new numbers on it after we painted and fixed our box. Anyway, we checked and we are the only ones on our entire road that have numbers on our mailbox...so what's his problem? He's been doing things like only picking up half the mail in the mail box and leaving the rest there (and it was clearly money going out to pay bills and he must have known that! and that they have a due date) so now I paperclip it all together so he can't say he couldn't reach it or didn't see it. He does lots of weird stuff like that after years of being sweet. The only thing that has changed is his boss, the Postmaster is a real snot! She is very rude and unprofessional. Maybe all the mail carriers are all in bad moods because of her or something. I definitely need to pray for him, and her!, I know that.
God bless you all and sweet dreams to you.
Sincerely,
Cynde
