Im actually way, way behind. I'm going to try to stick with it though, to see how much i can't get done. A lot of the difficulty in this is my job. When i get home from work, sometimes i just don't feel like being creative and writing, and something mindless like a video game is preferable. I know, excuses, excuses. Here's the excerpt:
The cool breeze on his face felt strange, the sensation of it was something new to him. It wasn’t often he traveled up to the top level of the city, and the wind never blows like this in the underside. He shook his head trying to stay focused on the task before him. He was to travel up to the designated building and meet with others who had been hired by the organization to do a job; of course no one knew what the job was. But no matter what it was, if he didn’t get there soon he wouldn’t be invited along at all.
So he walked onward. Why was he walking? Well naturally none of the cable trams were running at this hour, an attempt by the Iron Guard security to keep people from participating in nefarious activities such as the one he now traveled to. He wondered if they knew they weren’t stopping anyone, just making things more annoying.
He found himself gazing up at the emerging sky, ‘there’s another thing you don’t see in the underside,’ he thought, ‘stars.’ Once he made it to the second level the walkways above him started to thin out. There really aren’t “levels” like people get in the habit of saying in this city, just a general median where most of the cross building walkways converge. The effect of upward travel is so much like a sudden change in surroundings as it is a gradual opening. He didn’t like it up here, too much sky above him. There isn’t the comfort of the crossways above you, and the warm glow of the yellow light bars. No, no, up hear he felt exposed, and vulnerable. It’s beyond him why anyone would choose to do business up here, let alone take up residence.
He once again had to force his concentration onto the twists and turns of the path ahead of him, it wouldn’t do any good to get lost and lose a shot like this. The organization representative that he spoke to had made it sound as if anyone who was successful today would be looked upon very favorably for “future employment.”He had just been a low level pee-on, but his information was usually good. It’s funny how no matter what the organization said, it could never really be construed as a promise, actually ‘funny’ is probably not the best word, infuriating, that was it.
As he walked he wondered what lie before him, what task they would send a bunch of unknowns, and possibly unskilled freelance…thugs. Whatever it was, he was out to prove his worth. It’s the break he has been waiting for ever since he had left his uncle’s home in frustration four months ago, a chance to make a name for himself.
Please, Comments and critiques are most welcome! Really, it will help motivate me!
