Is this thing on???
Work was pretty normal today - although I really wonder how much the property tax reduction is going to hurt us over the summer. For those who don't know, I work for a sheet music supplier that specializes in choral/vocal music - 80-85% of our business is educational, and most of the rest of our business is community choirs and churches. Even though we give a great discount, people don't seem to be buying much right now. What we do see are the people who have been told to dump their budget so they don't lose it next year!
Let's see.
After paying all of our bills and getting caught up, with our tax returns,
georgieboiz and I had enough to replace the TV that was dying and join the rest of the world with a new videogame system...yes - we got a Wii! We were glad we could do this because we really haven't been able to buy anything just for fun in so long - everything has been practical and it felt good to just be able to buy something that we wanted instead of needed!
We're performing with the National Symphony Pops again next weekend - Jerry Herman's Broadway (oh yay fun!). I'm a little disappointed that I can't be in Oklahoma City this weekend for the ACDA conference though.
Other than that, George and I have been having fun putting together our new home. We're on Capitol Hill, less than a mile from the Capitol building. We're near the new H Street corridor as well, which is where all of the new and funky shops and restaurants are starting to pop up. I know
qxbear eats at a few places. We're also within walking distance of my church/church job and some of our favorite places in DC (Eastern Market!). The best thing I think is that we can actually go out and not worry about having to drive anywhere. I'm also happy that I'm only a 30-35 minute commute - all walking and transit - or a 15 minute drive from work. I'll be getting my bike fixed up and ready for the spring to start riding to work.
So, LJ world, I think that's most of what's been going on lately - really, we do live a pretty boring life, but we're hoping to change that soon!
