His walls are looking a little bare since he's pulled down his pinups and German dog tags, but he doesn't give people much time to stare before he pops his head on into the shot ( Read more... )

But it's yours, Clapet. You should have something around to remind you of why you wanted to survive in the first place.

Oui, and you're trying to hold it over my head. You can't do that. There's no point for you to prove here, Donny. None at all.

Am I? If you want it, Clapet, it's all yours. Free of fucking charge. I'm not going to hold a picture of your daughter hostage or anything. I'm not in the ransom business.

And yet, there you are, making it quite implicit that if I accept that picture, I cared more about my money than my own damn daughter.

And that's not true!

Merde!

[Donny just sounds cool as a cucumber:] It's not true? Really?

Anyway, you accepting the picture is kinda what it is - you getting yourself a picture of your daughter, because I know you think about her. She's your daughter, of course you do. You did everything you thought you could to take care of her; why would you forget her now?

But you lost her too. It's nobody else's fault but your own.

I didn't lose her!

She did. He did, I didn't. I gave her everything she could have wanted, I kept her safe, I... she was the only thing, the only person I ever spent money on!

How can it be my fault? That's insane. I gave her everything I possibly could, and she threw it away. For some stupid clown...

She threw it away, it's not my fault.

[The fact he's angry is covering up the fact he's just-a-little doubtful.]

If you really gave her everything, why did she throw it away in the first fuckin' place? Why would she walk away from you and everything you did for her if there wasn't something missing?

Did you really give her everything, or ah you just telling yourself you did?

Looks to me like something critical was missing.

Hey, you've gotta figure out the answer, not me.

A daughter's not just going to turn her back on her father, the only family's she got, for no reason, especially not while in the middle of some post-apocalyptic wasteland wheah nothin' fuckin' grows.

She... she...

It's not my fault she couldn't stomach what I had to do! It's not my fault she got attached. That was against the damn rules.

[Those unwritten rules he broke quite a lot himself.]

The rules that you made up, that you could change at any time, because you were the landlord and king of that little world you created.

So you let your daughter drift away from you.

No, no, that's not how it is at all.

She shouldn't have fallen for them - she was always weak to them. Always. I tried to teach her that it would end badly, but she didn't learn.

Alright, letting go of the fact that these were people you were luring to your building to butcher for food...

What did you really expect to happen, Clapet? And if you think about it, would you have wanted your daughter to follow in your footsteps? Is that any kind of life for someone you love?

...I didn't...

You don't think that far ahead when you're trying to survive.

I was hoping the money I had would at least save her from having to do that.

But you tried to make that sort of environment normal for her. You tried to make her turn a blind eye to it all, and when she didn't wanna, she resisted.
