i really dont see why as soon as a band signs with a bigger label or does a track for a movie, they "sold out" and people hate them. "but... but the music changes!!!" yea, i know. music changes in the first place. it evolves, groups explore music, they grow. thats the point of music. if a band sounded exactly the same forever and ever, we would get bored of them. sure, a lot of times the change is bad. but a lot of the time the change is good. look at blink 182. now, know as a preface that i dont care at all if you like them or not. on their earlier albums, they sounded like an average garage band. then they got signed. they grew. now they sound mature, and in my humble opinion, 100 times better. and maybe the "new, bad" sound appeals to more people. and really, at the risk of sounding like a corporate capitalist, is there anything wrong with money? seriously! would you really care if your music got out there to more people, and in the process, you made a buck? i remember, julie, a conversation we once had. you said something about how your independent artists want to drive around in fuel efficent hybrid cars, but that they cant afford them now they can. hooray, no? music is about expression, and a lable isnt going to tell a band, "no, im sorry, youre not allowed to sound like that anymore." if they didnt have a good sound, then they wouldnt have been popluar enough to get fans. this is just ridiculous. i hate it when some people are so "core" that they are outraged when a band signs. frankly, i think its fuckin stupid.
