When Alyx regained consciousness, she found herself entangled in the upper branches of a pine tree, next to what had been a trestle bridge an hour ago. She's still got dead needles down her shirt and pine tar stuck to her pants, but that's not important. The important thing is that she's been looking ever since she woke up and she still doesn't--

Wait. Was there a spot of orange in the window of that train car?

"Gordon!"

"Alyx?"

He crouches down enough to get a better look out the window, and threads one arm into a position where he can wave her over. The damn thing's still not opening despite his best efforts, and once again it appears that he's minus his entire damned arsenal. Gravity gun and crowbar included.

Alyx sprints over to the edge of the creek and crouches down to get a better look. "Oh, Gordon, thank God you're okay... hold on a sec, I'll get you out of there."

She looks around, hoping for some inspiration as to how to crack the car open. Her face lights up when she spots the familiar orange glow of the gravity gun on the ground a few yards away. "Let's hope this still works," she grunts as she hefts it up into her arms. "Stand back."

It's never not worked before, and Gordon's put it through a hell of a lot so far. The idea of the gravity gun failing now-
