The thing about electronically locked doors was that the vast majority of them were easily opened by the judicious application of a crowbar.

The thing was that the only crowbar Gordon knew of in the area was currently in D0G's keeping.

"They're all true," Gordon says. "Barney's probably better at this than I am."

It takes no time at all to rip off the grating with the gravity gun.

"Lucky thing I'm not claustrophobic..."

And he crouches down to scramble off into the darkness.

Alyx stays perfectly still, waiting.

Hopefully Gordon will be able to find his way through before her imagination starts conjuring up horrible explanations for every little noise in the air around her.

The suit's flashlight was never the strongest, but it's better than nothing, and enough to make the exit grating visible in the dimness up ahead as Gordon snakes his way through the duct. When he punts it out of the way the clatter as it hits the ground almost masks an all-too-familiar screech; he snatches up a discarded cinderblock from nearby just in time to fling it into the oncoming headcrab. Only then does he manage to get a look around.

Whoever had last occupied the grubby maintenance area Gordon finds himself in, he'd died of headcrab zombie. The corpses lie scattered about the floor. What killed them he doesn't know, but they managed to get to the janitor- or whoever it was- before he was able to reach his shotgun; it's propped in the corner, behind a chickenwire security fence blocking off a good half the area, along with a few untouched rounds of ammo. Thankfully, the gravity gun latches onto gun and ammo alike with ease. Sorry, whoever you were, but I need it more now.From there it's a simple enough matter to get the power ( ... )
