Barney stepped out with a satchel, and pulled some dubious-looking electronic equipment out. "Oh, before I forget: each team gets a radio to coordinate with other teams and personnel to make sure we're smooth. The channels are secure, and should be able to reach any team member within the City 17 area. Remember: this is your lifeline--I only have one to give you. Look at the channels on the side; they're labeled so you can tell who's who. Good luck, everyone!"

Channel 1: Destroy
Channel 2: Dunkirk
Channel 3: Ninja
Channel 4: Tennyson
Channel 5: Direct to Valerie/Medics
Channel 6: Global

"I'm not sure you'd believe me if I told you, Doc," says Alyx. "But we're here to make sure you get out of the city safely."

"Good heavens." Kleiner lowers the gun a little, reaching up to adjust his glasses. "You made it out of Nova Prospekt after all, Alyx? I can hardly believe it! Did Gordon happen to survive as well?"

"Doc, we don't have time for this," calls a woman's voice from somewhere in the shadows. "We gotta get everything dismantled and out of here."

"Yes, yes- I'm terribly sorry, Sonia-"

Something scuttles away in the shadows at his feet.

"Oh, blast. Lamarr? Lamarr..."

"Gordon's fine too, he's--" Alyx stops abruptly and facepalms at the scuttling. "Dr. Kleiner, we really don't have time..."

[smelltheashes]

"We can't just leave her behind, Alyx. You know perfectly well she can't fend for herself," says Kleiner.

There's an exasperated sigh in the background. "Someone'll catch her for you," Sonia calls.

"Thank you, Sonia, I appreciate it greatly." Kleiner blinks owlishly over Alyx's shoulder in Charlie's general direction. "Who's this, now?"
