Yahoo Inc. said it is planning to shut down several "underperforming" and "non-core" Web properties, including the venerable search site AltaVista, as it continues a years-long turnaround effort.

Sites that could be affected by the moves include Delicious, a so-called social bookmarking service, search site AlltheWeb, and online news aggregator Buzz, according to an internal company slide that was posted on the Web on Thursday.

Oh my god Yahoo, fuck you. If my fanfiction source is cut off I am going to be a very seriously unhappy camper.

I realized at our end-of-class party for poetry that I am somewhat... attention-whorey about my writing. We all did final portfolios (of various kinds), and everyone was looking at the items by the people who had done 3D stuff, and I had to restrain myself from going "GUYS GUYS I MADE A THING LOOK AT IT." I enjoyed looking at their stuff. And if someone else had gone "I MADE A THING" I would have looked at that, too. I think I do it because I really don't think I'm good at anything except writing, so I don't produce things I feel good about very much, and when I do I'm all "GUYS I MADE A THING, DID IS SUCK? DID IT NOT SUCK?", and do the virtual equivalent of waving it around. And I don't necessarily need people to go "Yes, Jys, that's a very nice thing you made." Knowing someone else has probably seen it is usually enough. So I still might do a little waving around, but I'll try to keep it... discrete.
