Friends! Comrades! And more importantly, readers/watchers/listeners! I have a proposal. I'm looking for books/movies/fanworks/whatever based on the Sherlock Holmes, er, mythos, and Arthuriana. For Holmes, I would prefer something that kept to the spirit/setting of the original books (though I do enjoy the Mary Russel novels, so that's relative ( Read more... )

Well... I don't have much for recommendations, but I do enjoy Merlin for a bit of very, very silly play with Arthurian legend. Gwen is adorable and Morgana is a badass (though I have not seen season 2 yet).
And Sherlock Hound. :3 Clearly I lean heavily into silliness with the things I watch.

On Rosemary Sutcliff - have you read The Shield Ring?

HOOOUUUND! We were somehow able to watch that with Grand Charles in the room. My theory was that he must have been blind enough not to tell what was going on. :P

I thought I had, but Google informs me I'm getting it mixed up with the Shining Company. Which I was getting mixed up with the Lantern Bearers.
On a Sutcliff-related note, I saw in the bookstore that they're trying to market her books by putting big, muscley, tattooed, shirtless dudes on the cover.

Heehee!

I think it is the only one of hers other than her Beowulf that I have read, because Rosie gave it to me a while back. It is very good.
Haha muscly tattooed guys. XD I suppose it makes a kind of sense...?

OH MY GOD you haven't read Song for a Dark Queen? Or The Shining Company? Get thee to a library! I'm actually pretty sure you may have read Brother Dustyfeet (the one about a boy with Shakespeare's traveling company), because we lent it to your house... Anyway. Song for a Dark Queen is about Boadicea.

Tangentially, is Mars Attacks happening this weekend?

Nope! None of 'em! Not even the Shakespeare one, in fact. *adds to the list of Things To Read Come January* D:

Provided Netflix get it to me, yes - and you're welcome to come over Saturday afternoon even if they don't.
