The deal with ads?

Yep, I've been wondering, so I'm going to talk about ads.  Not the stupid ads, the obnoxious ads, the ads that fool the unwary with get-rich-quick schemes or give you viruses.  No no!!

Some ads give website owners a cent or two just by being on the page, and so just by visiting the page (albeit probably a thousand times) the financial strain of an expensive site it eased.

But what about the ads you must click- again, not the obvious bad ones, but say something you were going to look into anyway.  Say you wanted a book or movie on Amazon- and you were on a site you trusted, and there was an ad from Amazon there.  Would you click the link?  Would you use the use that link to buy the book so that the site owner got a few cents?

Before I got my own site, I was really, really leery of ads- all of them.  But now that I have my own site to pay for, I wonder if I've been too hard on ads- especially legitimate ones that are easily verifiable (does the Amazon page match ad link except for the ID of who's hosting the ad?)

So- what's your take LJ'ers?

:)
