To a Loyal Dog
You were a happy puppy, from the day you were born.
Smiled as if the world was one big show to watch.
A little bark worried me, but it was just because you were lonley.
You wanted a friend, a play mate, a buddy to be with you
so you can share your happiness.
Those innocent sweet little eyes, that looked up at us with such love.
You had a heart as big as any person could ever imagine.
It let in anyone, another dog, a cat, a family member and even a stranger.
People were affraid of that big bark you had, once you grew up
but they didn't know behind that big bark, was a loving and loyal friend.
Just waiting to be loved by someone.
You proved so much to us, you proved that you didn't have to be smart to love someone.
That if you just lent your heart out to someone, they will love you right back.
You were a pillow to anyone that wanted to rest thier tired heads upon.
You were the playtime buddy to a little pup
A faithful companion to a girl who needed someone to talk to
A restiling partner to a boy that had tons of energy
A old friend to a guy that first named you
The happiness to a mother who brought you treats from the grocery store
The pet that a father always looked forward seeing in the morning and when he came home from a long days of work.
You weren't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but you were the kindest dog we could have.
So full of energy and life at such an old age, no wonder the vet said you had a few years left.
You knew, even through all of your illnesses, that you had to keep living for us
Keep living so we could continue having that sunshine in our life.
That sunshine that came out on a cloudy dreary day
The one that brought smiles to everyone, even on the sadest of sad days
You knew that with out you, we wouldn't know what to do.
Even though you are in a world where dogs can eat what they want
and play around forever
We know that you are up there, watching over us.
Still being that one loyal loving dog that everyone knew and loved.
We love you and miss you Odie!
This is for anyone to read, since I had a request to write a poem about my dog. If anyone has any negative comments, please keep them to yourself. Because this means a lot to me, and its a sensitve topic. Any suggestions or good comments are more than welcome though! Thanks!
