Visitors to my library.
As a part of my job at the State Library I have to conduct user surveys for people leaving the library and get information on them about what they did, where they are from and I usually find out why they're in the country just as a part of conversation. Also to keep things moving along because the survey takes about ten minutes and chatting to people is one of the ways to keep them filling it out without going bonkers.
Something I usually try to find out about is what they were using the library for, a lot of the tourists tend to use the library for two reasons, one is general internet usage(browsing stuff and the like) and the other is finding work. International students tend to be after the collection and study but they're residents and not quite as nomadic as the backpackers I encounter most days in the library.
A lot of the people I'm talking with seem to really appreciate the services on offer and also like the fact that all the museums and galleries are in one central location in the city. Brisbane isn't really much of a destination city for a lot of tourists, they stop here on their way somewhere else but it's a nice stopping ground for the time they do spend here.
Interesting fact: Tourists tend to be more open to filling out the surveys as well, I think its because have less worries about being on time to any place. I'd love to write some more on this topic but it's now 7am the day after I was meant to write this and I kind of need to sleep.
My Day.
After nearly two months off the bike I finally rode again today. And was promptly punished by my weak human body for daring to go outside in the cold. I'd forgotten how chilly my ears get when I'm riding in the wind and had to use the hood of my hoodie to actually cover up my ears. I still ended up getting a mild headache from it which wasn't fun. My knee held out mostly okay, I'm going to need to stretch it out a little bit over the next few days. I got to the city from Toowong, the city council has finally finished whatever it was they were doing on the bicentennial bikeway entrance near the hospital so I didn't have to go ducking around the bushes like I have for the last few months.
When I got to the city I bought myself a slice of pizza at New York Slice which was okay although it came with one of those stupid new cans of drink that are super skinny and annoy me on principle and while I was there I phoned up my brother and wished him a happy birthday, he's at the coast today enjoying the start of a long weekend with his family which is nice for him. We had a long chat about the new Windows and what it might mean for gaming, we also talked a bit about Grim Fandango which is a great game if you haven't played it you should go and play it and then play it again because you missed half the best jokes the first time around I guarantee it.
Once I was feeling a bit better I rode my bike back to my car and went home and watched the latest episode of Hannibal in preparation of the long weekend.
YouTube Clip of the day.
The Pale Blue Dot is such a great little moment in film.
