A new troupe, a new year

Clif is starting a troupe.  He asked me to be in it!  We have our first meet'n'greet tomorrow night.  Darin will be there, too, which is so fantastic.  I haven't worked with him in forever, and I think he's so incredibly talented.  I can't even express my excitement!  Level 3 starts Saturday, and Clif said we should start performing in Feb.  This is exactly what I have been looking for.

christrew came over to our place last week and taught a workshop which went really well, and he's thoroughly inspiring.  Since then, I've been starving for some more improv.  Prayers: answered.

Last night Buol and I went to check out Justine Bateman as the Armando.  It was weirdly horrible.  iO is doing a special thing this month in support of the strike.  Bully for them; I totally support it.  However, when non-improvising celebrities come in, please explain to them what exactly is the point of the monologues.  She made up this bizarro story about giving birth to a teddy bear, then her kids cutting it open only to find a real live baby inside.  The cast was all, "WTF?!!" but did the best they could.  It just set the stage for a strange show.  Then Melanie Chartoff (voice of Tommy on Rugrats) came on.  Her stories were better, and the second half of the show was much improved.  They did this hilarious thing where they named an offstage character Josh Dubose.  Buol didn't understand why I was in hysterics.  Um, hello, have I not made it clear I am in improv love with JD?!  At the end of the show Josh came out and did a call back to that scene.  It was utter brilliance.  And, also, impossible to explain without boring detail which loses all of its magic anyway.  Drew Carey is the Armando next week.  Although I'm not really a fan, at least he has an improv background and should have some good stories.

Oh, and I'm doing really well with drinking this year.  I've decided to like wine if it kills me, and to open the door to liquors other than rum.  Zha ordered some red wine the other day and I had a sip.  Needless to say, I'm still alive.  And I didn't even gag.  Then, at Zach's going away party on Friday I had two shots of tequila.  The only other shot I've had in my entire life was done last summer in Florida with the Yorks.  And the eve of New Year's Eve I had my first Jack & Coke, which Trew said I poured like we were old friends.  Last night Jon the Bartender (also on King Ten), bought Buol and I shots, which was super nice of him.  Mine was vodka.  Vodka and I broke up in college after a night of alcohol poisoning and pepper spray in my house (I did not shoot the spray).  We haven't spoken since.  But whatever Jon put in the vodka last night made it taste...actually...good.  I know.  Weird.  Oh, wait.  José, was that Roofies?

To sum up, 2008 is kicking ass so far.
