So recently one of my (hopefully) loyal readers wanted me to shed some light on the famously rumored "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Movie, and I dont mean a sequel to the Kristy Swanson early 90's one. Im gonna create a timeline for the movie that would blow the lid off action adventure horror genre and will unfortunately never come to pass.

2001-2003 "The UPN Era"

Buffy the Vampire Slayer moved to UPN and began it's final two seasons that it was contracted for with that network. Many people beleive UPN chose to cancel Buffy but really it only had 2 seasons contracted, and many of the lead cast did not have an 8th season option ex. buffy,anya...the others all had an 8th season option but UPN chose not to renew the contract. No big. The rumors of a buffy film began around that time. Joss Whedon (creator of buffy, angel and firefly) expressed interest in it, but only after Buffy moved on for a while, Sarah Michelle Gellar on the other hand said "she wouldnt mind, but wanted time away from the role she has been in for the past 7 years" ...understandable,sorta.

2003-2004 "Two Vampires with a Soul"

So with the demise of Buffy, Joss and co. started looking into the possibility of another spinoff to continue the "Buffyverse" going on TV...Several options were:

"Faith:The Series" - Eliza Dushku would headline the show for the WB/UPN, and the cast would most likely have been Principal Wood and Spike traveling across the country with her. Faith has always been a nomad, so it only seems normal that with no hellmouth she would set out to find her place in the world. Had this show taken of, Faith would have become romantically involved with Spike, which i think is much more interesting and fitting than "Spuffy". The reason this show was Dead on Arrival was because Dushku chose to do "Tru Calling" for FOX, which she felt would be a good chance to try a new role over Faith. Big Mistake! Tru Calling tanked and was cancelled 4 episodes into it's second season.

"Ripper" - This show was actually in development way back during buffy season 5 and it was going to star Giles living in London solving mysteries that dealt with more supernatural things like ghosts and curses as opposed to demons. The show was going to be an hour long filmed in London, and would air on BBC America, it was going to be very adult and different in tone from Buffy. Sadly this show has yet to get off the ground but apparently is still in the works.
Dont hold your breath.

"Willow" = For a while they toyed around with the idea of a Willow series, following willow's life after sunnydale with kennedy and possibly have her teaching magic at the new watcher's council. Becoming a watcher herself...it never got farther than "idea" stage.

Then what ended up happening was that Spike left to Angel, and Joss created a great new vibe for that show...until WB Cancelled (not ended, cancelled) ANGEL just when it was getting great again.Sadly WB pulled the plug on ANGEL even when it was getting a good 5-6 million viewers a week, alot of it is blamed on then President of WB David Janollari, whom hated those kinds of shows and felt that joss's buffyverse was "played out". Instead they kept Charmed (LMAO!) and greenlighted Supernatural.

So i bet your wondering "This is about TV show's...what about the movie?!?" See this all connects to the movie because Joss wanted to break the time of hold for a buffy movie by keeping the universe going in a spinoff. While sarah michelle gellar of course breaks away from the horror/monster genre making "The Grudge" , "Scooby Doo 2 :Monsters Unleashed" and "The Return"...Yea real stretch she is going for. Anyways at this point hope for a buffy movie rested entirely on SMG saying yes...unfortunately she has yet to say anything.

So when ANGEL was cancelled Joss began the possibility of a Spike spinoff series, which eventually became a long winded rumor of 3 TV movies at 2 hours each focusing on a different character(s) all connecting to eventually have a series of spike/willow/faith films air on WB.
Tim Minear wrote the script to "Spike:The Movie" but unfortunately WB then began to take back what they said and never expressed interest.

Present Day 2007 "Buffy Season Eight and Serenity 2"

In the present time, no official word on a buffy movie has been spoken, Joss continues to hope that one day the stars will align and both casts of buffy/angel can come together for a huge Buffyverse film, but till this day nothing has been confirmed.

Joss has however come to a great realization with the help of Dark Horse comics to produce a buffy season 8 in comic form. So that means that if you buy Season 8 comics you will be reading what truly happens next in the buffyverse...he himself is writing the scripts with many of buffy's writers and he promises that it will be HUGE, because in comics you dont have a budget of where you can film, and what you can use so the scope will be much grander. And Joss's other fandom is still anxiously awaiting the greenlight of "Serenity 2" from Universal. If you havent seen it, go now!

Conclusion: Buffy movie may eventually happen but for now it's just another dream or hope from the fanbase and or cast memebers (not including SMG)

Done and congrats if you real all that. Stick around im getting more used to my useless info,so there is gonna be a ton of crap you dont need (and some you do) coming up.
