welcome to this livejournal community.
the reason i have created it is because the apathy of americans towards their government (a body that incontrovertibly affects our daily lives and quality of living) is something that i feel an obligation to address and attempt to convert into informed activism.
so: i urge everyone using livejournal (especially those from North Carolina) to take part in discussion here. if you are uninformed or confused, ask a question. if you disagree with something, let it be known here. nothing can be accomplished without awareness and debate.
i ask you to defeat apathy. i ask you to refrain from thinking wholly in self interest, and to begin thinking of those less fortunate, those not privileged with internet access, those even more affected by the actions of our politicians and media.
as an extension, i hope that this community will grow enough to become a place where interested and informed north carolinians can plan events together to instigate social change.
"But, to speak practically and as a citizen, unlike those who call themselves no-government men, I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government. Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it."-Henry David Thoreau, 1849
