owl enrichment and other stuff

I helped with enrichment today. We gave wadded up balls of newspaper to the owls. Dudley loves those. He grabbed his and carried it over to the back corner of his cage. Then he started hooting. Then we played Barred Owl sounds for Bob O, which she loves. She can't have most of the other enrichment because she can't see it. While that was happening, Dudley was happily tearing up his paper. Of the other owls, Emma knocked her paper ball on the floor, Surrey pounced on his, the display owls ignored theirs, and Mattie ripped hers up when no one was watching. Andi got out of her cage and had to be grabbed.

I planted two planters with mini-gourds today. I also planted peas under the three tomato cages in my garden. I also planted lettuce and arugula seeds that I bought at Earth Fare. I still have the onion and the catnip in the garden from last year, and those will most likely stay. I'm also going to put peas under the trellis and tomato cage in the flower bed. There is a grape vine on the trellis, but it grows later than peas do, so they will be done by the time it comes up.

The budgies have been molting. Nigel the flying avocado has become the flying cactus. He has so many pin feathers. There were green feathers everywhere when I cleaned his cage on Saturday. Rudy is molting too. I found a flight feather on the bottom of his cage this morning.

I saw a big flock of black vultures when mom and I took our walk yesterday. We pulled the van right up to them and took pictures. They were squabbling over a dead possum, and they were right next to the parking area for the greenway.
