Thanksgiving and the day after

Nov 29, 2019 15:14

I had a very lazy Thanksgiving yesterday. I probably watched more TV yesterday than I have in the past three months. I watched the Macy's parade and most of the dog show. The parade had a better selection of musicals than last year including one about the Temptations and another about Tina Turner. I love both Motown and oldies, so those were great, but I know Tina Turner went into the 80's too, and one of the songs from the musical that they sang was from the 80's. They also usually have at least one marching band I recognize, and this year it was Ronald Reagan High School from Texas. I didn't see them on the list for Grand Nationals, and I guess them being in the Macy's Parade was why. I saw Tom Turkey who is one of my favorite floats. I also like the Mount Rushmore float that has been in there several years, and the Sesame Street float. They were joined by a big dance team because it is Sesame Street's 50th anniversary. Sesame Street is too PC for me to like it now, but I enjoyed it as a kid and still watch their Christmas special from 1978.

I watched most of the dog show. The terriers, the hounds, and the toys, are my three favorite groups, and I watched those along with the herding and sporting groups. I didn't watch the working or non-sporting groups because I got tired. While I was watching the dog show, they showed a really cute Hairless Terrier. It had a sweet face. I know someone who has two of them. One is a terrier's terrier, but the other is sweet, and the one on the show reminded me of her. The winner of the hound group was also very cute. It was a cute red sight hound with pointy ears called the Pharaoh Hound.

While I was watching TV, Mom and Dad were cooking. Dad took a walk while Mom made rolls, and then Dad made dressing, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots, and cooked the turkey. He had deboned and stuffed it the day before so only needed to roast it. Mom had made the pumpkin cheesecake and the cranberry salad, as well as some pumpkin rolls the day before.

Rocky had a good Thanksgiving. He likes cooking, and sang along while Dad was working in the kitchen.

We had dinner at six, and Nick came with his girlfriend, Laura, and Colby the dog. He brought some really good deviled eggs that we ate as appetizers. Mom had coloring pages for anyone who wanted them to color before dinner, and after dinner we had her Thanksgiving trivia game. I knew most of the answers about our Thanksgiving, but when she started asking about Thanksgiving from other countries, I was at a loss. We ate my cranberry jellies after dinner too, and then we each got five pieces of candy corn and had to say something we were thankful for for each piece of candy corn. We watched some Disney after that because Nick has a Disney+ account and set it up on our TV so we could use it too. He shares his Netflix account with us too.

This morning I started on Christmas preparations. I was ready to go right after breakfast so I made a batch of caramels. Then I cleaned my bathroom. After that I started in on Christmas decorations. First I put up a lighted garland up the stair rail. Then, I put up the little Christmas tree in the family room and some figurines that always go under it. I set up the blocks that say "Merry Christmas" on one side and "Jesus loves you." on the other underneath the TV. Then I put my little ceramic tree on the nightstand in the entry way, and moved the green lamp to a side table in the dining room. Then Mom and I decorated the dining room. We put gold tinsel and lights around the nativity that lives on top of our china cabinet. I put gold tinsel on top of my curio cabinets. The eagle figurine stayed where it is, while the owl moved up to my computer desk to make room for our angel. We put a wreath with battery operated lights on the dining room table, and a nativity on the side table. I also put a little glass Christmas tree on the shiny round table in the living room. There was also a white bowl by the fireplace that I filled with little Christmas balls. We still have to put a Christmas wreath on the front door. That was mostly before lunch.

For lunch I made two Thanksgiving leftover sliders. I defrosted two leftover rolls and split them. I put turkey, dressing, and cranberry salad on them. I had noodles and a little more dressing on the side. I had leftover cheesecake for breakfast. I also had some Cheerwine with lunch so I got caffeinated enough that I didn't want a nap even though I'm tired. I did my Bible Study, and then I got on the computer for a little bit. Then I decided to hang up the outside lights. Dad put up the ones over the porch, but I did everything else. I hung lights on the bell pole, and four of our bushes. I also put up the stake lights and my two spiral trees. I'm pretty much done with decorations, and we will be doing baking tomorrow. I have gingerbread cookie dough made, so we need to cut, bake, and decorate the cookies. Also need to cut and wrap the first batch of caramels.

I think that's it. Now I need to go fix the bell rope. It got tangled in the lights.
