First of all, this EDA has got to have the most... gory deaths yet. Eugh. I'm not usually grossed out but I was a bit disturbed by that. And Compassion going all axe-crazy was something I wasn't expecting from a Who novel.
That aside, I lovedlovedloved Compassion being awesome at industrial espionage. And I equally loved Fitz being complete and utter rubbish at it. It's great the way he's not at all stupid, he's just rather fail-y.
Fitz has certainly changed, hasn't he, since the earlier books? There's not the slightest thought in his mind about settling down with Alura. He's a bit of a total jerk to her, actually. But he never, ever considers leaving the TARDIS.
The EDA authors seem to like beat-up, vulnerable Eight. Hey, I'm not complaining...
So yeah, I liked it. I liked that Compassion is the action girl on the TARDIS, and Fitz is the one who needs rescuing. I like Fitz being gladder to see the Doctor than he is to see several naked women. I like Compassion and Fitz failing utterly as a team.
