Who: Harry and James Where: Hospital Wing Hogwarts When: Late Monday Morning Why: Harry needs to make sure James's alright. Rating: TBD Status: Incomplete
Like the day before, James was sitting at the foot of Frank's bed, legs tucked up underneath him, his books on the table beside his own bed unlike the day before when he'd been doing homework.
Frank's parents had been in and out throughout the day the day before and when he heard the footsteps coming towards them he'd assumed it was Neville coming in before class so he was quite surprised when he heard his dad's voice. He turned his head, looking up at him for a moment before shaking his head, "No, he hasn't."
Harry could feel instantly anger and frustration well up inside of him, which he quickly pushed away. He had been hoping that when he had defeated Voldemort back then, things would finally come to an end, but he must have been wrong. He reached out to put a hand gently on James's shoulder, giving it a small squeeze and letting his thumb caress comforting along it. He knew how horrible it was to watch your friends in the hospital wing, not being able to do anything, he had done that often enough already having lost count in process.
"How are you feeling?" he then asked in concern, looking at James's face to see how the bruise was looking like.
James shrugged, "Ok, I guess. My back doesn't hurt when I move as much anymore." Madame Pomfrey had given him another pain potion the night before and that had helped alot. "My face still hurts though. Probably doesn't help that it was already bruised when I got hit this time."
Knowing that he would be here for a while, Harry moved to sit down on the bed behind his son, but so that he could look at James and not stare at his back the whole time. "How come you were bruised up the first place?" Harry asked softly, leaning a little forward to watch his son closely. He was getting increasingly concerned about his son, and he hoped that at least now he would be able to help him somehow.
James turned so he could see his father, mindful of Frank's feet and chewed his bottom lip a moment or two before finally deciding that he might as well tell Harry what had happened, "That rumor is true. The one Madame Pomfrey mentioned. Two Slytherins beat me up for what I did to Scorpius." He left out the other reason they had beat him up, which was his feelings for Frank.
"Did you tell your head of house?" Harry asked immediately, but had a strong feeling about it that James probably hadn't. He knew how much James and he were similar in so many things, and Harry wouldn't have gone to tell someone back then either. He rubbed his hand a little as he remembered the detentions with Umbridge, and then looked back up at James.
"Is there anything else you want to talk about?" he asked softly. He had to admit that he was quite worried about his oldest son, and he hated it that the two of had always nearly fought when they saw one and another.
James looked over at Harry giving him what was obvious an 'Are you crazy?' look, "Would you have turned in two Slytherins who beat you up?" He asked, running a hand through his hair and mussing it slightly like his granddad used to do. "Besides the Mavens outed them so it doesn't matter."
At Harry's question, James shrugged, not really sure what else he might have to talk about, "No, not really."
"Probably not," Harry replied with a small chuckle, running a hand through his own hair as he attempted to straighten it out a little. "But well, I did other stupid things at your age, where I was glad that no one told on me," he added, with a small chuckle, and then turned serious again.
"You know you can always come to me or your mum if you need something, or just want to talk. I feel like I haven't been properly there for you in the last half year, and I am sorry for that," he said quietly.
James chewed his bottom lip and nodded, "I know and I also know that you're busy at The Ministry." James said, glancing at Frank's sleeping form before looking back at Harry, "Have you found her yet? Why would she want Frank?" He was still so confused over the whole incident.
"No we haven't," Harry replied with a heavy sigh. He felt like the whole weekend had been for nothing, except for Aurors apparating to one place to another without really getting further. He had hoped that there would be at least a small hint of there was a pack out there who might be planning something, but no one seemed to be willing to talk, or at least Harry hadn't heard anything.
"We're still kind of in the blue of why someone would attack Hogwarts students," he added. He only knew one werewolf who had enough anger against wizards to attack them, and he had been hoping that he had died until now.
"You'll keep looking, right? You won't stop?" James asked, chewing his bottom lip, brown eyes practically pleading, "I mean whose to say she won't try to do it again." James was so worried about Frank right now and hoped that he would wake up soon.
"Of course we'll keep looking," Harry said seriously. It was one of the main things that were going on his mind since the attack, scared that something would happen again and that the next time his son wouldn't get away that easily. "But until I know anything I want you not to talk to anyone you don't know, and don't leave the castle alone. Just for the save side alright?" Harry added, looking a little worried for a moment.
"I promise. I told Frank she seemed off, but he never listens to me." James sighed, slowly leaning over against his dad, still chewing his bottom lip, "Um...so am I in even more trouble for sneaking out?" With everything that had gone on Saturday night Harry and Ginny hadn't really had much time to talk to James afterwards as the Headmaster wanted to speak to them as well as Neville and Hannah in private.
When Harry felt James lean against him, he wrapped his arm carefully around his son's shoulder. At the question Harry shook his head and pressed a kiss against James's head. "No you're not," he said softly, "I wasn't much different in your age, so there is that. But just promise me to be careful at the moment."
Harry waited for James's reaction and then reached up to ruffle through his son's hair. "Also I think it's time for the Quidditch team to get his captain back full time, don't you think?" he said with a small grin.
What? Was his dad serious?! Sitting up, James stared at him, brown eyes wide, "Really? But I haven't even missed the match I was supposed to miss." He honestly couldn't believe what he was hearing and he couldn't keep the grin off his lips.
"I think you have been through enough this, then to also have Quidditch taken away," Harry replied seriously, smiling as he saw the grin on his son's face. "Just don't tell your mum yet, she might disagree," he added with a small grin. He could remember only too well how much he had loved Quidditch while he had been at school and how hard it had been not play in between.
