This is an icon colouring tutorial done in Photoshop CS.
It may be translatable, but involves curves.

Step 01.
Crop your image. I am using a cap made by Hanna (tip_painter). Prepare your base. I sharpened mine once. I got this:

Step 02.
Duplicate your base twice and set both layers to Soft Light.

Step 03.
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves and use the following settings:

RGB
Input: 188
Output:167

Red
Input: 172
Output: 173

Green
Input: 175
Output: 171

Blue
Input: 175
Output: 172

Set the layer to Soft Light at 41%.

Step 04.
Create a new layer and flood it with FBE7C1 and set to Multiply at 100%.

Step 05.
Create a new layer and flood with C1EFFB and set to Colour Burn at 100%.
Then get a small soft round erasing brush and erase the colour from his face and hand.
This gets rid of the red tinge that's left behind on the darker parts.

And now you're done!
I hope this tutorial was useful.
Please show me your results!
And remember, mess around with the settings so they suit your image better.
