The Green Fairy

So, on February 20th, I signed up for the MCAT.

I had a nervous breakdown shortly afterward and then Aleks, Sarah and I went on an Absinthe expedition.
Between Sarah and I, we finished half the bottle (so, I almost died. Absinthe is 68% alcohol.  That's almost 100%).

There was lots of crazyness involving large orange space balls, orange safety ( Read more... )

What was the brand of absinthe was that? Sorry to hear you didn't like it. Maybe if you had used the Bohemian fire method (pour absinthe through the sugar and light it) it may have tasted better? Some absinth from Czech tastes better that way :-)

Did it go cloudy white (louche) when you added water? I'm curious.

It was just the brand I found at the local Tesco.
The fire method sounds really interesting. I'm not sure we can do that becaues we didn't actually have a real absinthe spoon (we just improvised with a regular one) so I don't think we can light it like that.
Oh, and it did get cloudy!
Hah. If I actually feel up to it again, I'll try the better absinthe from Czech. Thanks for the tip. :D

Hills? Be careful if you light it. It isn't the traditional method..that's just with water as you did already. Also, it's not a good idea to drink to much - it was originally meant as an aperatif and drunk during The Green Hour (L'Heure Verte)...one glass before dinner :-)

Czech absinth is stronger - not everyone thinks it is better though! I enjoyed your description: "It tastes like an ass on fire" LOL

Haha. Then I won't light it!

I only drank a little more than a glass... but that's a LOT for me. I was really distressed (after signing up for that test) so my judgement was a little impaired. Ops.

Where do you get the Czech absinthe though? Curious.

Prague! ;-) a great city!

I think that what you got from Tesco from Tesco was Czech actually. It's everywhere. The one I like is called Bairnsfather Reality Absinth which is tricky to find - but you can buy it online. Absinthe is very strong alcohol and if you are not used to drinking then I would stay away. It will give you the mother of all hangovers - as you know.

Does it make you halucinate??

Because mine certainly didn't. Does the Tesco brand just not have a high volume of thujone in it?
