Can I slack off while my boss's boss in in the room? LET'S TRYING.
In the same vein as Niou's post regarding the many series that comprise the Prince of Tennis franchise, I'm going to ramble about the things/series/wtf-ever I play Gakuto from.
I play Gakuto mainly from the musicals in which he appears, those being:
The Imperial Match Hyoutei Gakuen
The Imperial Match Hyoutei Gakuen in Winter
Dream Live 3rd
Advancement Match Rokkaku feat. Hyotei Gakuen
Dream Live 4th
The Imperial Presence Hyotei Gakuen feat. Higa
The manga is REALLY similar, at least when it comes to Gakuto, and the musicals add scenes rather than take them out. The main difference between manga!Gakuto and myu!Gakuto would be that . . . Aoyagi Ruito is REALLY FREAKING CUTE. He's. Adorable. While the art in the manga and anime scares me slightly. Still, you might find Gakuto just as adorable in the manga/anime, idk. (I have to say at this point my love for the character overrides any scary art. :P)
The musicals also take Gakuto's respect and protectiveness of Oshitari into full-blown adoration, but I'll talk about that some other time--with screencaps 8D. It is PRETTY FANSERVICEY, yeah, but it doesn't necessarily have to be read as a crush (though I refer to it as a crush sometimes for the lolz). Also, myu!Gakuto can do card tricks.
I also use the fanbooks for such fascinating background information as it is Gakuto's opinion of certain teammates or what he's got in his bag. All of this is in this post for your edification. =P
As a final note! The Tenipri fandom has A LOT of fanon on all the characters, and Gakuto is no exception, but in general my headcanon and Gakuto fanon don't seem to coincide so much. Among other things, the Gakuto I play . . .
a. doesn't like to crossdress.
b. isn't exclusively, openly homosexual.
c. his little brother isn't gay. I-I don't even have headcanon for his little brother, guys (NOT YET, remember I'm a headcanon addict).
d. is still a virgin! (And IF YOU MUST KNOW, he'll probably be bad his first time, okay.)
e. isn't suicidal, isn't doing badly in school, doesn't cut, etc, etc. NOT AN ANGST BALL.
. . . I could go on, but bottom line is I'm not using any generally accepted Gakuto fanon, and I don't see this changing soon. I'm also not using any doujinshi stuff--except maybe that thing where he jumps in his sleep because it makes me laugh. I have two cartoon icons! They come from a doujinshi review of the first Hyotei musicals*, and both are things that happen in the musicals. I just couldn't get a good screencap of either. :(d
As for ICness. If you think I'm doing it wrong with Gakuto, and are well-versed in the musicals (because again, that's where I'm playing from!), please bring it up to me! For a rival character, I think Gakuto is rather well-defined and the boundaries of what he will and will not do are clearer than for other characters. So, as always, concrit is ttly cool. |Dd
(* This doujinshi genre is actually rather popular, and it consists of drawn panels of stuff that happened in whatever is being reviewed (the musicals in this case) and commentary from the reviewers.)
eta: (now at home!) Okay, I'm going to go ahead and say I don't really play from the anime. I wrestled with this for a bit, because I know that people are really fond of the Hyotei arc in which they play against Seigaku while vacationing in the mountains. And fond of Hyotei being afraid of frogs and stuff. I-I'm sorry, guys, but I like the fact that Aoyagi Ruito plays a frog in another musical MUCH MORE. So I want him to like frogs. SUE ME. ;; So, since Gakuto actually compares himself to a frog in the manga, I'm running with this. LA LA LA~
Gakuto was actually afraid of Del's frogs in his intro, since I figured it didn't hurt to run with the joke. NOW THAT I HAVE DONE MY PART FOR THE FANDOM, this will change. :|d
What else, what else . . . Oh yeah, that means that for Gakuto, the vacationing in the mountains and the Senbatsu camp arc have not happened. I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the latter arc, and I have to check with Oshitari-mun if she's using that.
NOTE FOR POTENTIAL HIYOSHI APPERS: there's an extra scene with Gakuto and Hiyoshi in the Nationals OVAs. As of now, I'm not including it as part of my canon, but I don't mind changing this if you, the apper, would like to play with that. It's a cute scene, isn't it? :(d
