Well, here I am! In Melbourne! Sound those drums and trumpets my friends...
These last two weeks since I "moved" down (I still don't have a place to live, so I've been living with Ben, lovely Ben) have been some of the most exciting and terrifyingly anxiety provoking weeks of recent memory. Generally I am not homesick, just with a general feeling of wishing that everyone from Sydney would move their lives down here, but I will occasionally be almost barreled over with such intense homesickness that all I want to do is curl up into a little ball until it stops hurting so much.
I can proudly say now, however, that I successfully completed my first week of drama school. Well... almost. There is a 1st year initiation party on tonight- Ben told me that apparently we'll be required to either tell a joke, sing a song or do a party trick. I'm doing my belly roll. Classes have been... very similar to Nepean, which make me very glad and grateful that I went to Nepean and realise just how similar it is to have gone there- at least for now. I'm sure having more than double the contact hours will be a bit of a shift.
We've been having classes with Frankie Armstrong this week and will continue to next week. She's an internationally renowned singer from Britain and comes over every year to teach at VCA and NIDA, apparently. Jill did some awesome Frankie based work with us last year when we were doing HENRY VI with archetypes. we started doing archetype work today, and we've been spending the last week with her learning songs from all around the globe. She's in her 60's, almost completely blind and fairly deaf, and has a stutter where she says "fa" when she is stumbling over her sentences. She is truly an amazing soul. Never done any formal training, just traveled the world learning from people. Wow.
Otherwise we've been doing some Viewpoints based work with Richard Murphett, who is married to Jenny Kemp- who's also on staff, and when I get the chance will tell her how we learnt about her at UWS.
Shit, the library is closing and i still need to look at properties to inspect tomorrow.
