Finally, Owensboro is going to get a Starbucks. I have been waiting to live in a place that has a Starbucks for the past five years. Rapid City never had one... Until two months after I moved to this hellhole, and then they decide to build not one, but two Starbucks there. So now, finally, Owensboro is supposed to be getting one. The only downside is that I'm going to be poor from buying coffees there all the time! :X
Had today off from work... The first and last Saturday I'll have off in a long time. We're in the process of working out our own schedules for the month of July at work, and it's not going too well. There are no real stipulations - we just have to keep our hours between 20-30 per week and make sure that two people are working at all times. Well, our only problem is that between the four of us on second shift, one girl (third down the list for seniority) grabbed the blank schedule and wrote down that she is off on Sunday the 3rd, and Monday the 4th. And then she left. Only problem with that is we have to have all four of us working on weekends. Here is an example of a Sunday coming up and how hard it is to have two people in the building all the time:
Person 1: 8-2pm
Person 2: 8-12noon
Person 3: 12noon-8pm
Me: 2pm - 11pm
Person 4: 7pm-12mn
If one person gets the day off, it is impossible to have everyone else work to cover the day... unless, of course, we all work 15 hour days. And that isn't happening. We worked with it and gave her the 4th off, but we whited out her "off" marks on the 3rd and put her down to work. It's just not possible right now with us being shorthanded. It made me mad, though, that she would have the nerve to just give herself the 4th off. Of course, none of us want to work a holiday, but that's part of our job. And who says she deserves the day off before the rest of us? Because she got the schedule first? No. Even I, who has been there the longest, don't deserve the day off before anyone else. If one of us has to work, we should all work. That's the way it's always been. She's in for a wakeup call when Christmas rolls around... If she's still there. I don't know... I'm just pissed off about things going on at work.
Another issue I'm upset about is my 1-year evaluation (which is about 6 months late) is this week. And no pay raise is in the works for any part-timers. That pisses me off big time. I've been there going on two years, I'm in charge of every shift I work, I train new people, and I've been given added responsibilities (because they know they can put the time and effort into training me since they know I'm sticking around), and yet I still make as much as my co-worker who sits on her ass and has been working there for one month. Is that right? And it's a state run program. So you'd think that raises would be very doable. Apparently, someone is pocketing money somewhere, in my opinion. I've seen the money that building makes in grants and funding, and I've seen how much it costs to run the place. The numbers just don't match up. But I guess I need to stop thinking so much about it because it just makes me more mad.
