Uniforms promote a sense of unity and cohesion among a group. Allowing too much freedom in altering them defeats the purpose.

It's just an optional touch of home for some people! Some schools don't even have uniforms.

Yes -- usually smaller, rustic schools, where the parents of students wouldn't be able to afford uniforms.
