Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to my previous motivational image, I have provided another inspirational piece for you to feast your eyes on.
Moving right along...
Leave the gun, take the CONnollis
(Or, how I spent my weekend…)
Well, this weekend was the much-anticipated often dreaded and admittedly quite successful CON. I'm not sure quite how clear my previous discussions of the CON were, so let me clarify. I'm a
UU. We’re quite a small denomination (especially in the south). Due to our small numbers, our youth groups are equally small. In fact, the church I belong to in Melbourne only has one other teenager and no youth group. However, since we are so small, during the school year we hold regular CONferences at least once a month with other youth groups throughout the state. They are essentially weekend long retreats sponsored and held at individual congregations. Every youth group in the Florida district is invited to these events.
For the past two years, our Vero Beach youth group has hosted the last con of the year. This year was pretty darn successful. We had a whopping 10 people registered when I arrived Friday night but when I went to bed Saturday morning, I had registered an additional 52 advisors and youth.
I did enjoy a good bit of the con. The workshops were awesome, particularly our social action event to make lunch for the Vero Beach homeless center. I also somewhat learned how to swing dance, which was quite cool. Beyond that, I was one of the folks who lead our worship service, which I found quite moving and severally other people told me that they really enjoyed it. Our coffeehouse (essentially a talent show) was also very entertaining. Finally, I met a few very cool people.
The downside (as it always is) was all of the downtime when we really aren’t doing anything. I like to be busy. I like to have things to do. Hours of sitting on the floor and chatting is fun for a while… but after a certain number of hours it just becomes boring and annoying. For me, anyway.
After the con, we made our usual journey to Steak & Shake for brunch. While there, we noticed that they were raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Being the good UUs that we are, we decided we wanted to pitch in. We noticed that there were three levels of contributions; gold, silver and platinum. There were many gold shamrocks, a few silvers but no platinums. Being the braggarts that we are, we pitched in our money to purchase a platinum shamrock. The only platinum shamrock on the wall.
This Summer
I’m not really sure what is going on this summer. I know that I am working at the office when I am here. I also know that from the day we get out of school until May 29th, I will be in Northampton with Sid. Beyond that, we are also planning to go to NYC, Hawaii and possibly Cape Cod. However, no one seems to be able to come up with firm dates. I’ve now canceled three hotel rooms for NYC and am about to cancel another flight to there. My family really needs to work on making decisions. It’s really annoying, neither of my parents like to make necessary decisions. They’d prefer to just wait and see. Sigh…
Also, as of July 1st. our house on the Indian River will be vacant. This does, of course, mean that sometime after July 1st we will be proud residents of Micco, FL. Heh. I’m not sure when exactly we plan to move in but it will have to be sometime before we start school again.
Too much uncertainty for me this summer… I like things well planned.

Who knows about Cape Cod…
I feel my soul on fire (West Shore)
I find it interesting how some people’s journals are purely a re-cap of their school day. I’m not sure what I make of that. I feel like one could extrapolate some thoughts/feelings/information about the owner of the journal from that… but I’m not sure what exactly it would tell us.
Anyway! Chemistry continues to make school worth attending. It seems that, at the very least, one thing happens in there on a daily basis that makes me absolutely crack up. Today, it was her antagonizing Liz & Lauren with regards to their inability to successfully light a bunsen burner. Those turkeys! Gobble.
Ms. Rasley has all but declared cold war against me. She gives me these evil glares and then randomly takes points off assignments for lame reasons like “late” or “wrong answer” or even “not enough effort”. Sigh!
Mama Wills continues to rule with an iron fist. And by iron fist, I mean a feather. A peacock feather, even. I love that class. She absolutely gave up on teaching yesterday because we were oh so engrossed in our yearbooks. Honestly, she didn’t even try.
Speaking of yearbooks, they are pretty snazzy. I really like how they have a spread for each week of the school year. That is a really creative idea. However, I think the white cover was a horrible idea. I already have smudges on it. I also left it at home today because I couldn’t find it. Oops. Tomorrow, however, I shall bring it and you shall sign it. Today, I was feeling quite creative in Latin and wrote a very scandalous note in Sarah’s yearbook. Poor Sarah. Her mom will really hate me now.
Math continues to be frustrating. I really wish Bentley would teach. Right now, I understand most of the stuff we are covering simply because we did it with the gerbil last year. I’ve also discovered that he trusts me. I’m not really sure what that means nor why he told me that, but he did. Good to know, I guess.
Cultural Diversity club rocks. Seriously, I’m in love with that club according to Serena. I think she may be right.
The section that never was
This was going to be a nice long section about Tango. However, due to time constraints it will be rather short. Suffice it to say I really like her. A whole lot. (Oh and for the last damn time, I am upholding the traditions!) We’re going somewhere on Saturday… not quite sure where yet. That should be fun. J
The thunder rolls,
