The only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on one

The past is a big part of who we are. It reminds us of the times we used to wait up for Santa, but never actually manage to stay awake that long, and it reminds us of the times when we wish we could hide from everyone. Some memories are easier to let go than others. Sometimes we have a tendency to live in the past, and sometimes we try to run from it. Unfortunately, it seems like the easiest things to remember are the things we wish to forget. We remember the bad things, and lose sight of the good things. Or we do the complete opposite and dwell in the good things, only to make the world we are living in unreal, and not realize the reality of it all (redundant, I know). Whether we've won some award, or completely screwed up in life, it has happened in the past. I don't neccessarily think it's a good thing to live in the past - mainly because it could cause you to forget what lies ahead. I had a hard time realizing this. You've probably heard the saying, "The past is in the past." And well, quite frankly, that's true. So why live for the past? Is it because we are too comfortable there and no longer wish to step out of our comfort zone? Or why are we running from the past? Is it because we don't want to realize something that could potentially change the course of our lives? I don't know. That's for you to determine. Don't worry about the past, or the future, for that matter. Consentrate on what's happening in your life now, but keep references of the past and keep an eye out for the future. You'll never know what's in store for you if you keep looking back. (You'll probably just end up flat on your face because you tripped over a crack in the sidewalk.)
