Normally, football games are held are Fridays and the band plays at them when it is a home game. Today, this Thursday, was unlike any other. Due to bad weather, the game that was supposedly tomorrow, got moved to today. We (the band) all had to make phone calls either on the school phones or our illegal cell phones. We were scrambling to get our things together for the performance [editor's note: translations for non-bandies will be toward bottom].
We ended up wearing jeans, our band shirts, black socks, and our drill masters. The show went well. It was probably the best I've marched this year. Awesome.
After we performed at half time, we marched back into the band room to gather our belongings and head home. I had just put my sax away and went over to where the basses were hanging their drum carriers. Little did I know I was standing right under the landing where they were hanging them. I was having a good conversation with someone when, out of nowhere, I get hit on the head with a falling carrier. It just so happens that Sarah didn't want to walk up the stairs to hang hers up. Instead, she decided to throw hers up to Joey who was on the top of the landing. She threw it too short and he didn't catch it, so it ended up finding its place on my head.
I now have a lump there including a few other unpleasantries (ie-headache, throbbing pain, forgetfulness, bruising, etc). I must however, thank Kyle, Scuba Steve, Nikki, Eli, and Arin for their nice hugs. Arin even went the extra mile and kissed my head to make it feel better. That made me all warm inside. But later he licked my hat which was salty due to sweat and that was kind of weird. He's pretty much licked everything I own. He almost ate my dollar bill once. After it dried I got it back.
Translations: Drill masters = marching shoes; drum carriers = things that hold a drum so you can march; landing = the top of the stairs in the band room.
It will be interesting to attempt to brush my hair tomorrow. Smooches. Kaeli R.
