032. Crazy in the Brain Pan - February/March - Rambles & Snippets

While he had never been exactly overjoyed with Theani joining them for a weekend or even a week, he was soon sure that he preferred that over the alternative.

Vera was gone. She would be for an entire week all up, which meant another six and a half days all alone. He could cope, of course he could. It was a welcome break, actually. All they talked about was art anyhow, and Vera wasn't really his partner - not the one he knew so well anyhow - when Theani was around.

He had one or two easy heists planned. They wouldn't bring in much but they were the only simple ones in the area so they'd have to do. He had thought that he'd get started in one straight away, but as time inched by he started re-thinking his plans. What was the rush? He could always do them later in the week. Shaelt needed some minor upgrades and a stop at a full six-way port to do a total re-stock which was almost overdue also.

And yet... he simply could not be bothered to move himself from his hammock while his ship drifted and he lazily turned one page and then another in his current book. Who said he hadn't earned a few days rest anyhow? It's not like Vera was working or anything, she'd be spending this entire week painting and going to art shows. So he was entitled to this and annoyed that he was feeling guilty for it. Crazy in the brain pan. That's what he was.

It was a day and a half before he even looked at what Shaelt needed. He eventually decided he may as well upgrade basically everything. He had nothing else to really do and right then and there it wasn't like he was going to be interrupted by anyone.

He worked slowly, finding that he enjoyed making Shaelt hum smoother just as much as he enjoyed reading. He'd forgot about that. But it still felt a little hollow inside. Shaelt seemed to be missing that little trill in her hum, and it seemed to be because Vera wasn't there...
"Five more days..." he murmured to his ship reassuringly. "Then she'll be back" and he tried to keep from his mind the thought that her visits away could become longer and more and more often.
He sighed. He couldn’t see how some sky pirates worked alone, he really couldn't. How did they not go crazy with no one to talk to? To share exploits with, to share a meal or a drink? Let alone pull off a heist that was actually worth getting caught for.

Still though, he'd rather fly alone than not at all, he supposed. Not that a day like that would ever come, of course. He, alone? It was laughable; he simply wasn’t able to imagine such a thing ever happening. Chuckling, he set his mind to the heists instead and put all else out of his mind.
