023. Tell me More - February/March - Rambles & Snippets - Fiction[NET]

Jul 27, 2007 21:54

After a rough week they decided to take the weekend off and even stay landed, renting a two room self serviced apartment in a nice hotel. They both deserved it, their first real holiday in years whereas they had grown up with two pricy holidays a year and for the first day Vera did nothing else but swim laps in the pool while Jairdan sat by, his nose stuck in a book.

“We spend all this money and all you do is all you do any other time we have a break on the ship.” Vera huffed at him, still in the pool, leaning up at him on the edge. “Come in the water Jairdan!”
“I’d rather not. Water disagrees with me. You know that.” He mumbled back. “I’ll pay for all your drinks tonight to make up for it.”

That night they had a liquid dinner instead, neither could be bothered with the idea of going out anywhere for food anyway and so they headed straight for the tavern by the ship docks, Jairdan taking a place in the corner with a window to stare out of at Shaelt while Vera danced off with his money, planning to get throughout plastered.
She returned quickly though, only holding one drink which she shoved at him.
“They have to make mine.” She explained happily. “The bartender said I looked the type to try her special, she’s going to bring it out to me.”
And sure enough, she did. A tall pretty girl with long, tawny hair delivered Vera her drink and then stuck around to see the reaction.
“Is it good?” she asked hopefully, generally unsure as Vera sipped it tentatively then drained half of it quickly.
“It’s fantastic!” Vera grinned at her, causing the girl to blush. “Can I grab another?”

The bartender darted off and was back before Jairdan could hardly blink, causing Vera to cheer. Time past, Vera chatted away to her new friend, quickly drunk on the highly alcoholic temptations the girl kept serving her.
“You’re racking up quite a bill.” Jairdan pointed out after a good hour, making Vera pout.
“Oh don’t worry about it, they’re on me.” The bartender who was now sitting at their table assured. She introduced herself as Sabre and she and Vera were getting along like a house on fire.

“We’re sky pirates.” Vera confided, absolutely smashed. Jairdan rolled his eyes, so much for staying under cover. There were few who weren’t pirates in that tavern though, he supposed, so really it didn’t matter all that much.
He half listened while Vera prattled on to the younger girl, not drunk enough himself to really enjoy what he saw.
“Ooh, that sounds so thrilling! Tell me more!” the bar tender giggled, her eyes never leaving Vera’s face.
He looked between them both, half amused. Vera was talking more than he had ever seen her and when it was finally time to turn in for the night he had to drag her away.
