For a birthday I tried to leave under wraps until the last possible moment, it was pretty great. I was worried it would turn out semi-crappy because of my previous week's chaos and madness, but from the time I woke up, it went smoothly.
Kristen and I went to the Three Generations Tea Room around noon. We walk in and immediately to the left were 10 finely dressed elderly white women sitting around chatting. Who knows what diabolical plans they were setting up in there. The door was locked when we got there, so I was quite worried, but a middle-aged lady (I imagine the hostess) opened the door and said, "Oh you're Raymond's friend, come on in" It's good to know people in high places. Luckily for me the chef (the former owner of Roxie's Square Table Spoon [RIP]) is a real good friend of mine and my old boss when I worked at Roxie's. We sat in the table they have set up on the patio, looking directly at the beautiful backyard/croquet field. I swear I thought I needed to go home and put on a suit and tie to eat there. The place was so exquisite that it made me rather uncomfortable. The food, though, was outlandishly good and expansive, (and not as expensive as I thought it would be. Kristen and I's total was 24.05 for the pile of good food they gave us). I couldn't even finish it all. Had a Bayou Berry salad with pineapples, pecans, spring lettuce, and gorgonzola cheese mixed with balsamic vinaigrette. Then the bacon and caramelized onion quiche with piles of cheese loaded in. I had the BBQ chicken plate with what I would say was a half lb. thigh, with potato salad, kidney beans cooked with brown sugar and molasses, and cole slaw. I hate cole slaw with a furious passion, but I ate this like it was my last meal before the electric chair. Kristen had what was quoted by our waitress (possible owner??) as "the best chicken salad in Starkville, and possibly the rest of the Golden Triangle). It came with crackers and various fruits and vegetables. Then the caramel cake for dessert. Words can't even describe how retarded it is. Let's just say I may be making bi-monthly visits to this place. If anyone wants to try it, it's on 217 N. Jackson St. You can only walk in and eat on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 1:30, and at any other time, you must have a reservation. Very nice people, and great tea and food. Give them your money, it keeps my friend's kids with food on the table.
After that, I went around and hung with a few people around Canterbury, did a very poor job of cleaning my house up, and headed to Dave's at 8:00 for free pizza. About 18 people showed up, and my homies Leslie and Cecilla were working up at Dave's that night, so they hooked us up with four delectable pizzas, plus a free drink from Leslie. Tried to avoid drinking at Dave's because of last year's birthday craziness, but still got suckered into 4 shots, 3 beers, and a whiskey and coke in 1 1/2 hours for free. What can ya do? Played some darts and some pool (won all the games I played...............yep I'm the man at bar games), then headed back to my house to drink on a party ball.
Well, I invited a few people up at Dave's back to my house to drink for a while, but evidently word spread around quite fast. At 11:00 when I got back to the house, there were only 8 people at the house. By 11:45 there were probably 30 people standing outside my apartment. Boy did I ever underestimate the number of people that know me. The party ball got downed in an hour and a half, and the rest of the beer at the house soon went with it. Didn't bother me, since I got some free pills from a friend of mine at the bar, and I happily downed a few of them. Well that, and I had been drinking since 2:00. Usually the emptying of alcohol at a party signifies the gradual decrease of patrons, but everyone was still outside maxin' and relaxin'. People stayed around for a good while. I don't really remember much of anything after 1:30 A.M. or so, but evidently these 3 things happened from people that told me about it.
(1) Two female friends of mine got paid $22.00 to make out on my bed............and I was nowhere around to see it, supposedly. Funny they actually paid for it, I'm pretty sure those 2 girls would have done it without monetary compensation. The shit I miss at my own birthday party.
(2) I evidently kept picking up every lady I saw, especially Christine. She'd ask me, "Do you want a shot", and I'd say "sure, I'll pick you up", and toss her in the air. Guess I'm good enough to be drunk as piss and still pick up ladies without injury to them or me. I'm a pretty sharp drunk, maybe even more so than when I'm sober. Must be that false sense of confidence.
(3) Supposedly I was talking to some gorgeous lady on my couch about 3:00 in the morning last night, but nobody who was still at the party knew who she was, and I don't even remember talking to her at all, but evidently we had some excellent conversation. My luck with women..........I meet a cool girl when I'm drunk, and I can't even remember meeting her. I can be such a fuckup. Oh well, I have only one idea who it could be, and if it's not her, then I'll probably never see this girl again.
Today my homie Gelyn picked me up about 1:30 to give me a birthday lunch. Went to Old Venice and at some good quasi-Italian cooking. Then when went to Bebop and I got 4 CD's for $37.00:
David Banner - Certified (it's fucking edited, oh well, I'll listen to it for a week, then sell it back to Bebop and buy the unedited version................it seems to be a pretty good album from what I've heard of it)
Hawk - Hawk (I've only heard one line of him rapping, and I bought his album. Shows how much I like that verse he threw down. He's got a good head on his shoulder, good beat selection, and an infectious flow, at least from the first 4 songs I've listened to.)
Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Some nutbag sold this and Abbey Road back to Bebop, so both of them were only 8 dollars. I asked Gelyn which one I should get, and she went for da Pepper, so I got it. Listened to it at work for the 2 hours I was there...........it's gonna get some heavy rotation by moi. I've only listened to it twice in my whole life (although I've heard a lot of the songs before on the radio). It was just calling me to buy it, and who am I to resist. I probably need to get up on my classic rock..........can't listen to rap all the time, I guess.
Beck - Sea Change (Another used CD..........I burned this about a week before it came out and listened to it for a while, loved it...........but damn it's depressing. I let someone borrow my copy, and never saw it again. It's Beck, and it must be in my collection. Him and probably Dan Bern are my favorite non-rap musical minds)
I would say my birthday was 93.6% greatness, 5.1% hmmmm........what's the word.......sourness, and 1.3% random craziness.
Verdict: Kickassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
