I'm watching the Cosby episode where Denise has to tell her parents she got married, and they just kind of sit there and look at her. Strangely, I've been there. Let's re-enact.
"So, (mumble mumble) Adam and I exchanged some vows."
"(silence)"
"So we're married."
"(more silence)"
To my Cleveland Grandmother's credit, the conversation did end with her saying, "good luck with your... marriage thing." I did not receive a card.
My date for tonight, and my lunch date for the past several days, was Augusten Burroughs. We get along fine, but I think I might have liked him better during his Magical Thinking days. I'm hoping to have a tryst with Anne Tyler next week. I'm almost embarrassed to love her so much, since she seems so domestic, but I do. I want to be written into one of her novels, and to see my domestic life interwoven into a grand narrative.
Douglas Coupland has a new book coming out later this month, too. This might be his last chance to win me back. Like bears, Douglas Coupland is on notice.
I think there is a crazy person with a shopping cart outside of my house. Sometimes I don't think I'm cut out for city life.
