I've never taken compliments well.
When I got my DVD set of Angel, Season 3, I listened to Joss's commentary track on "Waiting In The Wings", and almost spit my coffee across the room. In it, he called me 'the most beautiful thing I ever shot'. I turned 17 shades of red, dithered about whether or not he meant it, and finally called him, after debating with myself whether or not I was being silly, to ask him what he meant by that.
I'm a little neurotic about my appearance. Aren't we all?
(By the way, I mean women, not actors. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.)
When I was little, I was taller than all the boys around, very quickly. They say that girls mature faster than boys. Well, I'm not sure about that. The girls were all very quick to be petty and point out every flaw I had: my glasses, my height, my chest. I still wear the exact same size bra I did when I was 14. I know a lot of women that would be proud of that. When I think about it too long, I kind of shuffle from one foot to the other, and change the subject before I chew my bottom lip off.
Conventions, at first, were too much of a good thing to bear. Thousands of people (more like hundreds, probably, but let me dream, huh?) lining up to tell me how much they love me, and how beautiful they think I am, and how talented. How can anyone not love to have dozens of strangers a day explain to you how amazing you are?
It's easy to see why some stars go on the "star trips" that they do when you look at it that way. Oh, I'm not excusing it...but I do understand it.
So, it could be a good thing that I'm not working much lately. I did get a call from Bruce Timm, and I will be reappearing on Justice League Unlimited next season. It's probably too much to hope that The Question and I get our own episode again, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. There's even a rumor of another new show coming out of those same offices. Something called Legion of Super-Heroes. Bruce has said that he's not the show runner, or I'd already be cast...but he can get me an appointment to meet with the person who is in charge, and see if I can read for a role or four.
At least it'll keep me busy.
