so last night i went and saw q and not u. alone. i stupidly figured everyone would be going, so i bought a ticket and showed up. i felt like an idiot standing there all by myself, but it was alright. it wasn't the first show i've attended by myself and it's most likely not the last.

Q and not U, for anyone who has never heard them, is what you'd get if you combined fugazi, gang of four, prince, and beck. at least that's what the new album sounds like. it's incredibly catchy. they are one of those bands that are actually doing something new. they aren't a rip-off of anything. any band that is both funk and punk at the same time is a-ok in my book. the lead singer has really got some awesome moves too. the entire show he was dancing and twisting and jumping around. if only i had that kind of energy. the show ended with an awesome finale including i think every guy from all 3 opening bands, lots of hand clapping, lots of bouncing around and dancing in a george-clinton-funked-out way, 4 people banging on drums, one of those little keyboards you blow into like a giant recorder, and, yes, even a cowbell. they fucking rule.

in other news, i saw an old man on the train this morning wearing 2 pairs of glasses at once. i think he was trying to create his own bifocals. reading glasses plus giant plastic old man glasses on top. i found that rather amusing.

so anyway, i have a buttload to do this weekend. tomorrow is not only JOHNHUTCH's big BBQ bash, but i'm also going to see paul westerberg with dan hill and nick, which will be awesome. if by some chance he plays alex chilton, i may be witness to nick's head actually exploding. then on sunday, jess, (my best friend from middle school all the way through high school) is getting married. that...will be very, very odd. she is the first friend of mine to get married, and i think seeing her in a wedding dress in front of 200 of her closest friends and family will freak me out just a tad. i mean, i spent like 10 years of my life playing pool in her basement, and walking with her to the orthodontist after school, and playing nintendo until 5 a.m., and writing notes to her about whatever guy she had a crush on. and now she's getting married. she already bought a house. it's just kind of strange.

i'll have an interesting weekend, i can be sure of that.
