I just got home from a show by the Beatles Tribute band
Rain.
...
FUCKING AWESOME. Seriously. I have been obsessed with the Beatles since I was about 11 or 12. In my mind, BEATLES > EVERYTHING. Everything including Harry Potter, Lost, Jim Halpert, Sawyer, chocolate, coffee, Wes Anderson movies, etc etc. It is impossible for me to love The Beatles any more than I do.
So. When I go to a show in which 4 men impersonate The Beatles PERFECTLY, I practically get choked up. The one shitty thing about having The Beatles as my favorite band is that I was born about 30 years too late to ever hear them live. The closest I ever came was Oasis playing a cover of Helter Skelter once.
But this...this was as close as you can come to actually seeing The Beatles in 2007. Seriously. They dressed like them, looked like them, MOVED like them, (which seriously freaked me out - every single little head bob was A+) sounded EXACTLY like them, especially the one who was "Paul." It was uncanny. He sounded EXACTLY like him. From "Can't Buy Me Love" to "Golden Slumbers" you could close your eyes and think it was actually Paul McCartney on the stage. The "John" was also really good, although sometimes he got a bit too nasal. "Ringo" only sang one song, but it was spot on. And "George" sounded the least like the real George, but he made up for it by kicking ass at guitar solos in "Get Back" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
Among others, they played A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields, Daytripper, Tell Me Why, Get Back, Hey Jude, Imagine, Here Comes the Sun, Blackbird, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I am the Walrus, Twist and Shout (every single person in the theater was dancing, I felt like I was in a scene from Ferris Bueller XD), Yesterday, This Boy, and All My Loving. They changed into 4 different costumes - first they had the black suits and skinny ties, then the olive green jacket things they wore when they played Shea Stadium, then Sgt. Pepper costumes, and last was the Abbey Road gear.
Seriously. It was awesome. It's not like you ever forgot that it was actually 4 American guys with wigs and silly costumes on, but for someone like me, it was top notch.
My mom loved it too. It was the first time she seemed like she was actually having fun in...years. On the way out of the theater I lit a cigarette and she said "That made ME want to have a cigarette!" LOL my mom quit smoking when I was about 7 and she HATES cigarettes. And then she started saying how she wished she could go back and be a teenager again. And I said "Mid-life crisis, much?" Hahaha. Oy vay. I suppose birthdays do that to people.
And now, of course, that corner of my mind that's full of Beatles trivia and lyrics has been flicked on HIGH yet again. My Beatles obsession is like a slow burn that flares up every once in a while. I listen to them every single day. Seriously. But now I'm like omg must watch Anthology must find pictures to make icons must listen to them every minute of every day ;lkfjlakfj;alksdjfa;lksjdflk BEST. BAND. EVER.
EVER EVER.
And now I'm going to knit more of my Rose wristwarmers and probably watch some of the Anthology :D
