DESMOND YES.

As far as the other characters - I had known for months that this first set of 6 episodes would be focused on Jack, Kate, and Sawyer, so it doesn't really bother me. And I'm obsessed with Sawyer. So I have kind of a biased opinion. All the Lost characters are exaggerated - a lot. Especially when it's their episode. Charlie is insane for his flashback episodes, Kate is a crying mess, and Sawyer is either horrible bad guy or bad guy with a heart of gold.

I don't know. I've wanted Kate and Sawyer together since around the 3rd episode, so I've been waiting very patiently for 2 years for all of this stuff. The kissing her in a dramatic way, and her saying she loves him, and blah blah blah. They could do it for hours and I wouldn't be sick of it haha.

Introducing the new characters has been bumpy, but it doesn't really bother me. Although I really think I'm the only person it didn't bother. I knew they'd be on the show back in like, July. I was expecting it.

And as far as reminding people what happened last year - I agree with you that they must be stupid. However. Us crazy Lost internet people talk about it all the time. We never shut up about it. We know all the little details. We have memorized the screencaps. We visit Lostpedia twice a day. But people like...my mom? Who don't remember what they did this morning let alone what happened on a TV show a year ago? They need reminding haha.

And with everything, I still was expecting all of this stuff, like the Skate stuff and the introducing the new characters. I guess I was just hoping they'd do it in a less-annoying way. I just became a Skate fan, remember? I need easing in. ;)
